How did angel get outa hell?

Waller

It's been a long time since I've seen the episodes surrounding that but I think he was brought out of Hell by some evil thing so he could kill Buffy.

I could be wrong. I probably am.

dont think it was that m8
if i remember rightly, buffy went back to the mansion where she sent angel to hell, to return the ring he gave her, then she cut herself or summint and this brought angel back from 100years in hell. It was somfin like that.

Good question, m8. I remember my sister telling me something along the lines of what Waller said - that he made a deal with a demon or something to kill Buffy.

That said, thinking back, I don't recall any episode that actually dealt with that information.

It wasn't chronicled in one of the books, was it?

some were right, the reason was that the "first Evil" brought him back so he would kill buffy, or at least die trying!

sorry guys but he was brought back by the powers that be as he still had his mission in life to do thats why the series "angel "was brought in so he could do good and revoke his sins he said something along tose lines in one of the Angel episodes.

Well some of you a\re right, but it was th act of placing the cladagh (spelling) at the spot where angel was slain by buffy, add too this mix the powers that be : )

They helped a lil im sure

Right. I'm not sure the Claddagh ring was of particular importance - it was placed there by Buffy as an act of closure, and there's certainly no evidence to suggest that it was anything more than a coincidence that Angel's return came moments after.

Secondly, The First Evil. I don't think he/she/it brought Angel back, more that it was playing on Angel's insecurity about why he was brought back in order to use him against Buffy.

Third, The Powers That Be. In hindsight, this seems the most plausible option. However, you've gotta wonder whether Joss and co. knew that they were going to introduce TPTB when Angel was brought back.

Wasn't there something mentioned about Angel spending 100 years of torment in the bowels of hell, but (as explored in the season 3 opener, Anne) time moves more quickly in hell so 100 years was compressed to 3 months? Can't remember exactly where this part was mentioned, but I seem to recall it being in there.

I spotted a problem with that episode of Buffy in hell thingy.

She sees a group of people who've only been there a week or two, right? So, that means that they must only have actually entered a few seconds ago, so Buffy would have seen them all go in? :)

WAs'nt he brought back by the PTB to avert the end of the world. Because buffy could'nt do it by herself ( watch the episode in which angel is turned into a human by killing a demon) and if he stayed in hell buffy would die to early to be able to avert the end of the world.
One question u do know that buffys gonna end up dead right? how else will a new slayer be born.....coz i doubt faith is going to be around for a while and lastest news is SMG may not be doing a new series

BUFFY WITHOUT BUFFY OMG!! maybe it will be the scooby gang v the first ones.

er, Buffy's out of the running as THE slayer isn't she?

I assume the chain has linked onto Faith now and will run up from there, so even if Buffy died that wouldn't summon a new slayer....?

The idea is that when a slayer dies, another is called. It's not a chain - simply, if EITHER Buffy or Faith die, then another is called.

Buffy Drowned in the last episode of season 1, but Xander gave her the kiss of life. But technically she was dead so the next slayer was called for, Kendra. She snuffed it in season 2 which called for Faith.

Ar'nt there plans for a Faith series? i also heard a rumour conerning xander forming a company that hunts demons and stuff(i think this was aborted and turnd into angel)

A Spike spin off series would be good, or maybe a Xander and spike series...

if buffy died than another slayer wouldn't be called cause she is already dead (technically). only if faith dies would another slayer be called, and i can't see that happening

Angel was brought back by the first evil, as he was a creature of pure naughtyness. It is explained in the Third season ep: Ammends.

I refer you to Buffy's line: "This thing brought you back because it needs you, and if it needs you, that means you can hurt it."

plain and simple.

He was brought back with the task of killing Buffy (the ghost of Jenny Calender telling him to unload his soul into her by killing her etc.), but he was stronger blah blah blah.

He spend "hundreds" *plural* of years in hell. Explained in the third season ep... er... er... bollocks... the one with the guy that has the formula to make him evil veiny demon dude.

Nice theory from Mr Cox there too :)
