View Full Version : Diary of a Newbie Skateboarder - Week 1
Friday - Bought Trucks from friend, finally finished putting together Skateboard.
Saturday - Went to shops on Skateboard, noticed that it likes going left a lot but not right. Practiced for 5 hours with friends (Who were on Blades and Bikes), learnt how to almost kickflip (classic), Ollie and a trick I don't know the name of that involves putting my feet under the side of the board, jumping (and flipping the board) then landing on the board.
Total Injuries: - Skinned my right Hand twice, probably the most mild Injury I have ever recieved while not shaving, Sprained Both Ankles by landing on the edge of the board several times while it was on its side (both sprains unnoticed within minutes), Landed very Hard on Bum (hurt Lots).
Sunday/Monday - Slacked
Tuesday - Improved Kickflip and Ollie, realised that I somehow sprained my stomach during Skateboarding on Saturday, the move I don't know the name of seems to use my stomach muscles more than my legs and now it hurts to do it, I will stretch before Skateboarding in Future. Adjusted Skateboard so it is multi-directional instead of only going left, marked improvement in mobility now.
So far Skateboarding is both easier and harder than I thought but definitley very fun, I spent 5 hours solid doing it without even noticing how late it was. I'm thinking of getting a proper board in January but my current Board isn't too bad, when I get some new shoes I'm going to make sure they are better for hooking the board for kickflips than my current ones :E
Anyhoo, I apologise for my lack of serious injury, I will now attempt to ollie this 30-set

Judging by all this information, approximately you would be pro in about 4-5months.
I h'pologise, I may have explained myself poorly, I started to learn Ollies and Classic Kickflips, I can do them about 1 in 10 tries (poorly) and have done no ollies that lifted my back trucks over about 4 or 5 inches ;)
That more beliveable? :E
Anyway, I have just been informed I will be in traction for 6 months due to my accident involving a stair railing, 29 bounces, a few thuds and several cracks so my Pro Skating career has been postponed ;(
P.S. anyone know any good stomach stretches? :D
And it took 2 days to get that good ;)

thats more bleiveable. good. i can now sleep at nights.
Stomach stretches... I'm out. you'll be able to find one probably onwww.oldwomanexerciseweekly.com :E
Oi! Dat website not exist! :(
and I would like to correct my previous Ollie height asessment, the front wheels go about 5 inches off the ground the back go about 2 :E
The board seems to pop higher if I use my toes instead on the base of my foot, how does everyone else Ollie? :)
I forgot a few things in my diary, here is an update ;)
Saturday - Didn't have bolts to attach the trucks to my Skateboard, went to Homebase and bought some bolts, attached trucks using the nuts that came with the bolts, Skated for 20 minutes, trucks fell off, me cried, re-attached trucks using the nuts from my old £5 skateboard that I had thought was completely useless, skated, fell over, cried ;(
Thursday Practiced Kickflip and Ollie more, didn't do my flippy board mount thingy because mah stomach still hurts ;(
Ice was fun, going forwards was difficult but going sideways was cool :E
Damn forum, j00 lied to meeee! :(

watchoo on about?
Mate, dont buy cheap crap bolts, buy some good old skate bolts that are normal in a skate shop. they wont fall out, belive me.
I ollie with the Middle of my front foot (when i slide it up) And to level it out so the front and back truck are the same height (looks a lot better) Crouch lower, jump higher, and when you have done that, put a little bit more pressure on the nose.
Hope it helps
Tha forum said that it didn't exist when I posted mah message so I re-posted it, I ended up double posting because tha forum lied, comprende? :E
The bolts I have are ok, they don't loosen now that I am using skateboard nuts ( :naughty: ) on them ;)
Anyway, this is just my temporary Skateboard until I buy a proper one ;)

Still. Even popping 5-6 inches is quite impossible but for 5 hrs and 1/10, quite possible. Im practicing my ollies again i forgot how to do them!:) Plus today my bro was gonna give me a good tip but since it snowed the whole garage got wet and my grip tape somehow gained a mud stain.

Yes but i cant drive to London can i? But anyway i was searching on the Internet and found out that ever person who went to South Shields skatepark said it was rubbish. I was thinking of going to Whitley Bay(1 hr drive from my house) but sadly it closed down(fast eddies- indoor skatepark)but there is a new one. All the monuments in Newcastle have chains round em so we can't grind em. Basically the skate scene in north east is 10/20 are fashioners and only bout 4/20 are really not.

Hmm... pity you cant go many places to skate. do what did...
If you have a good flat back garden (Or somewhere near you that's flat) You can make your own grind poles and boxes.
I have turned my back garden into kind of a mini skatepark which is cool.
If anyone wants to know more about this just ask, coz it's a very good idea. :)

I found this crate you see lieing near a park. So i took it in my garage and its actually sort of like a ledge. Since im practicing my ollies again, my bro's try grinding it and all and one grind my bro did his board flew off and he fell.
Can't wait till i learn em!:)

If you want a grind box nail a right angled peice of metal on the side of it. Beautiful. :lips:
