The Weakest Link - so do we like this or not?

Personally I do quiet like it. It's good TV to eat your tea too.

Anne Robinson is a tough Cookie (no pun intended) and it's this what makes the show.

I don't think the format works particularly well, and she has to be so rude in order to make the program in any way interesting.

I just hate the incredibly vacuous bits between the rounds and the voting off.. it will invariably go like this:

Anne: Dave, why Bob?

Dave: Because he got some questions wrong.

Anne: <nods>

And repeat that about 6 times per episode.

I think the weakest link is enormously funny. It's even funnier than when somebody loses thousands of pounds on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Anne Robinson is a totally evil witch and its great when people get voted off and are especially annoyed about it.

In a way it is the BBC trying to compete with "Who wants to be a Millionaire", without the £1,000,000!

The studio is set out similarly and also try to get the tension going.

The only difference is that "Weakest Link" is a team game.

They also created the annoying catchphrase "You are the weakest link, goodbye" to match Chris Tarrants "Is that your final answer"

I think it is all competition.

The Weakest Link was never intended to be successful I think, as otherwise it would of started off with a more prime time slot. It just sort of took off. If it was meant to be direct competition, why didn't they go for the large dramatic sets, and used more than the BBC broom cupboard for filmin?

Les Dennis was hostinf FF on ITV at the same time as this today & it is SOOOOOOOOO different with its big brightcheery set & crappy pre-catchphrase graphics board - but the kicker was at the end the family didnt win tyhe money because they were incredibbly retarted or something & les says :oh bad luck - I was really rooting for you there myself" & I just though - "No you wernt Les ye were just thinking I bloody well better get home or my wife'll be shagging yer man from Men Behaving Badly again - cripes" - then the TV was turned over to Man Robinson ( well she IS very hairy with that blue light shining on her face n all ) & her daft slow annoying voice & samey insencere questions between rounds felt like a breath of fresh air. still a crap show though, but i have become impressed with the lack of caring in her voice when she says 'right'
