I know u answered some question already, the prime thing if we play powerups on or off, still remains unanswererd. I surely do speak for many if we play pu on. Thats at least a standard in most EU countries.
Map Codex for example: without shield, u have exactly one armor in the map: Now guess where the camping would take place. Same for Liandri, and more or less for Turbine too, since u can very well guard the 100 Body Armor...
Would be nice if u let us know, what we have to deal with.

I think powerups will be on for FFA and off for 1v1 from what has been said.
I play with powers off all the time in 1v1 as I think a shield gives too much power to whoever controlls it, where armour isnt quite as tough.
But u are right about there being one area to control on these maps, maybe diff ones should have been chosen cos of this.
And why no Malevolence! The best 1v1 map by far in my opinion, designed for 1v1 with many routs all linking up and armour and shin pads at opposite ends.
Also, camping around the armour in liandri seems dodgy :/
I was playing a match earlier on it.. someone ran into the teleport got the armour, and came back through again (i was at rockets next to it) I ran there to await their arrival through it to find that the second sound didnt even play and they were already through! This totally surprised me and they killed me.. followed by another 2 spawn kills :(
Is this my sound card (a good one) or the map with the bug
Sometimes this teleport doesnt play the sound!
Demigod should be replying in the other topic anytime now about powers anyway :)

I agree with Ulath, Powerups on is the EU standard and imho it`s a far better setting.
Without the shield all you have to do is camp the armor. I wouldn`t even call that duel anymore. "Armor Domination" or "Capture the Armor" fits more if you ask me...
With shield enabled you always have to be on the run, from armor to shield and back, in order to deny your opponent every defensive ressource possible. This makes room for lots of comeback possibilities, if you are the underdog you just have to set a trap along the armor-shield route.
After all the guy who is in control has to do something in order to keep control, if shield is disabled, he just has to sit near the armor and wait.
It`s also much more respawn friendly. If all you have to care about is the armor you have lots of time between the armor pickups to go respawnhunting and in most maps your opponent will only have 100h, so he is down with 1 shot.
And in the beginning it is much fairer. Without shield the guy who spawns near armor has a big advantage, I even saw games, that were won just because of the initial spawns. But with shield enabled usually everyone gets one of the 2 defensive items and between 100/100 and 150/100 is no big difference with those strong UT weapons.
Shield is imho no powerup, it´s just a better armor, same thing for health vials and keg of health, they are just different health packs. Redeemer, Invisibility, Damage Amplifier and Anti-Grav Boots are powerups after the usual definition...

Hmmmm Flocotus does has a VERY goos point there, I remember playing .DAM.Nacher on turbine and Liandri, all he did was camp the BA waiting for me and because he got first kill i had to attack and died horribly =/
I am not bothered either way as i have played with both settings.
Oh come on..... playing with PU's in duels isn't a European standard. It's just a German UT standard and this is England mate! :D
90% of the people I play with hate PU's. I think they are cheap. Someone with the shield has a BIG advantage over someone with armour, and someone with the shield can just keep collecting the health vial's till they get 200% health, and they will still have that health till all of the shield has gone.
And the amp is the cheapest thing ever. At least in Quake3 you have to aim at your opponent when you have the Quad to kill them but in UT.....
Don't get me started on Invisibility... please...

Well I used to play Quake3, but me being on a 56k, I couldn't compete with LPB and seeing that UT is more about spamming than aiming…. :)
