Now, dont flame me, but can some one please explain the comedy in this show to me ? - I have tried to watch it many times but it just looks depressing & I have NEVER laughed yet - I dunno, if this is supposed to be comedy then everyone I know could all be stand-up comedians. Can somebody convince me its a good show, cos at the minute I think it is one of the MOST over rated peices of garbage on television. this is an open challange to PROVE ME WRONG !

Like all things, different people have different tastes.
I find it funny, but wouldn't wanna try and persuade you that you should.
I remember rolling around LMAO at Monty Python, whilst my mum just says "that's not funny, that's just stupid".

Each to their own.

(but it IS funny  )

yeah but Royle is not stupid either, its just ordinary, more like a proper light hearted soap opera. but I cannot see the COMEDY. explain to me a funny bit

The comedy comes from the interaction between the characters, from Jim Royles outbursts (Outbursts My Arse!), and from the stupidity of Denise and Dave.

Much like the Fast Show as well, much of its comedy comes from repetition.

I love it, I find it hilarious, but humour is one of the most subjective things imaginable. Moreso than music for instance.

In other words: Each to their own.

:)

And it's impossible to explain which bits are funny, because as with all humour and jokes, if you have to explain it, it loses all humour by being dissected.

Have to agree with starscream on this one, don't find it funny at all, prefer Alistair McGowans portrayal of THE Royal family!

If you ask me, the Royle Family is an utter load of crap. It isn't the slightest bit funny. I agree that different people have different tastes, but this really is rubbish.

If you want a laugh, watch Who Wants To Be A millionaire or The Weakest Link. Chuckle as people almost burst into tears at the sharp end of Anne Robinsons tongue. Giggle as 'poor' people lose thousands of pounds in WWTBAM.

Or if you really don't laugh at either of these, the only thing that can help your sense of humour is Fawlty Towers. I can't help but laugh as Basil batters his unfortunate Spanish porter with a frying pan, or after a guest misteriously dies after eating some 'off' fish.

If you watch the Royle Family, don't dispair! Your sense of humour can still be saved! Try any old BBC sitcom, and I promise you'll be laughing again in no time.

Trust me, your salvation is at hand!

I have to agree with the 'nays' on this... I don't get it. How is it funny to keep asking the youngest member (well, second now, I guess) of the family to make the tea, open the door, get food etc?

Its comedy, dont let anyone say anything else, havent u/ur family ever been in those "family TV" situations?
I find it funny cos it hi-lights whats going on in Familys and there taking the pi8s about it

OK, I'll agree with it being slightly funny if you can point out 1 joke (and explain why it is funny) from the Christmas Special (the one where they all rush out at the end to have the baby delivered).

I await your reply....

If u dont think so its proberly because your dont understand
the deep comedy of it.

Deep? Frankly I think it's a bit silly to say that something like that could be so deep that so many of us "don't understand it".

If it's meant to be a satirical/ironical/witty/self-mocking look at 'family life' or whatever, then I feel sorry for the family(s) it draws inspiration from :P

What I find really annoying about this program is that they take things too far. It is obviously based on families at the lower end of the class scale but they go beyond a joke. I remember watching one episode when they were all gathered round the window because a taxi had pulled up outside, they were going on like "who the hell do we know that can afford a taxi" and stuff. I thought that was quite insulting but not in a funny way. Another example was when they were stripping the wall paper the were using a fish slice and a screw driver. I'm sure even people on social security could find enough money to buy a wallpaper scraper, especially when one of them is a tea leaf who gets everything on the cheap.:E

One last thing, you can not compare the royale family with the fast show, blastphemy!
