Okay, let me first start off by saying I have nothing personal against the guy and this isn't so much a rant as a question.
As a writer he seems to be held in quite high regard within the industry but is this deserved?
My only experience of his writing stems from reading Wildcats (which he started with Travis Charest) and The Darkness (which he took over a couple of years back). In both cases the storylines all seemed to be build ups to events that never seemed to happen. Characters would be introduced left and right (mostly with lots of splash page fight scenes consisting of inane innuendo filled one-liners). It all felt like filler material spun on endlessly.
Now, in the case of Wildcats, he left the book early so maybe that wasn't his fault, but with The Darkness I've been reading for over a year (I finally gave up a few months back) and the only eventful thing to happen seems to have occured in the bloody Batman/Darkness crossover (which I didn't read because I HATE bleeding crossovers!!).
So, my question is to those of you out there who have read some of his other stuff -- does he ever deliver the goods? Do his story arcs inevitably wrap themselves up or (as I suspect) is he just a filler writer who meets deadlines?
