KT7 M/B, Duron 650 (G'teed to 950 by Overclockers uk)

It gets as far as counting the memory (256mb PC133) then freezes, Nada, Zilch!
I've tried removing and swapping the different memory modules with the same result. The Graphics card is ok, thats never been pushed at all. (Geforce2 GTS)

So...I reckon it's the chip, but it could be the M/board. Which do i try first? Or do I try and get OCUK to swap the pair of em?

Any comments/ help would be much appreciated.

Btw, although the chip was G'teed to OC to 950Mhz, I always left it running at 750 as no game ever pushed it hard enough to warrant taking it all the way up to 950. In fact it was only yesterday I put it to 850 so I could see how smooth Cataclysm ran in 32bit @ 1028 x 780 with full detail. It ran that for hours without any problem at all for hours...then I try to give FA2 a go and Ptffh...lock up, followed by the above.

Me vewwy vewwy sad now ;(

The more I think about it, the more I reckon it's the cpu, as the MB doeas do a quick post, and it did reset to default cpu speed on start up when i pressed the right key.

Me still sad though ;(

Yeah, just the usual one for the graphic card.

try holding the insert key down during boot (should reset the bios if i remember correctly).

also try removing all the cards and leaving it unplugged with the cmos clear jumper set for 30 minutes, then reset the jumper, add the video card and memory and try a reboot.

most likely it is a cmos setting as the motherboard would probably not beep if it was the cpu or mobo that had died (i would very much doubt it would count the memory).

it is also worth posting on the ocuk boards as it is a good bet someone there has encountered a similar problem (i think 50%+ of the duron/t-bird users use the kt7 and kt7-raid).

last time my motherboard refused to boot but got to the memory count was when i flashed the bios on my ka7 and it counted the memory and froze, it turned out to be the bios version disliked the nic i was using being in pci 5.

Cheers m8, I'll try the reset cmos thing. (did all the "insert" key business, and it did reset the cpu speed from 850 to the default 650, but it still doeasn't get past the memory count). :(

I've mailed OCUK and I'm waiting on a reply, but at this time of the year......;(

Thanks Werewolf, reset the cmos and away it went :) (Yippee!)

First time in 5 years of messing/building PC's I've ever had to do that, guess thats why it never occurred to me.

Thanks again m8, and have a happy new year on me! :E
