Hi there.
I recently upgraded from my old ATI RAGE 128 to a brand spanking new Geforce2 MX and have so far been pleased with the reults.
But when I came to play my new spinal tap DVD, I found the playback to be all jerky and generally very poor.
On my old ATI RAGE 128 I used the ATI DVD player that came with the card on a disc and it worked fine, and also used it to try the playback on the Geforce. I thought this may have been the prob (that I was using an ATI DVD player), so I gave PCFriendly DVD player a try, but things were even worse...it wouldnt even start, saying I had old out of date drivers and that I should install the ones on the disc, but when i tried it said the previous drivers werent loaded or something similar (?!?!).
I'm currently using the Geforce drivers that came on the disc with the card...I've tried the D3 drivers, but found them to be worse for some of my games (Colin Mcrae 2 wouldnt even run).
I also installed a CD Writer the other day, although I doubt this has anything to do with it, and I know my DVD drive doesnt have standard drivers for it, it just uses the ones in Windows or something (well, thats what it said on the Toshiba website, and it was ok before I upgraded my card).
So can anyone help?! (apart from telling me to upgrade my Geforce drivers :P)

Cheers

Make sure you enable DMA mode in your DVD software. That should smooth it out.

You really should upgrade to some version of detonator 3 as the drivers that come on the CD are always ancient and det 3 is a huge improvement.

DMA is enabled on my DVD drive and I tried the detonator 3 drivers but with no luck...they dont seem to help at all, with my DVD prob and even no improvement on the FPS in my games (like i said, some games dont even run).

What sort of Motherboard have you got? If it has a VIA chipset you will need the VIA 4in1 driver. If it has an AMD750 chipset you will need the AMD AGP miniport driver. Post back with some specs, any IRQs sharing with your graphics card?

Erm, Im not to hot when it comes to computers, but I have a PIII 450 with 128 mb RAM, 6x DVD ROM, 32 meg Geforce2 MX and a soundblaster 64 PCI. Like i said, everything worked fine before i installed my new GFX card, and even though it does play, its all jerky.

Sorry if Im not much help, but i really cant think what it could be.

Its definitely not a AMD driver problem then! If you go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information there should be a tab for IRQs and you can see if any are sharing with your graphics card. If they are you may need to move your PCIs cards (modem, soundcard etc) so they are not sharing. Hope this helps.

Slide,
I have the same problem with PowerDVD 2.55 full ver (i have a GeForce2 MX PCI) but with PowerDVD 3.0 trial it's fine. I guess they must've added new support for GeForce2's in the new version. I don't know why it'll work ok for only Reg. 1 tho, sorry.
