View Full Version : AGP/PCI ????
Admittidly yes I am an idiot, one who has recently obtained a Voodoo 3 AGP, and dosn't know if he has a PCI/AGP slot. Are there any basic ways of telling what I have.
I currently have an Intel 810 chipset if that helps.
err read the manual that came with your pc/motherboard
or take the thing apart and see if a motherbaord connector matches the voodoo connector- easy - dont h ave a clue what it should look like tho :D

the agp slot will be brown and the pci slots white if i remember correctly.
if your machine has an agp slot it will be above 3-5 other slots of a similar size, and slightly offset compared to them.
i would think it very likely you have an agp slot as they have been pretty standard for the past 2 years at least.
not if u have onboard video though :)

The AGP slot is approx 2.5 inches long, brown and set back from the pci ones (white)
The intel 810 usually is PCI but I believe they do do an AGP one which isn't much help at all

All intel 810 based boards do not have an AGP slot they have an onboard graphics chip(which is crap) you will have to get a new mobo if you intend to use your new graphics card I'am afraid.
:(
Ok thanx peep's. It's a pci slot , so I've changed the voodoo for a riva tnt. But now the monitor simply flashes "no signal" or turns to powers saving off mode, I can't even access windows with the new card. Oh and it dosn't help if I disable the onboard chipset
Oh and im still an idiot

Have a look im the bios to see if there's an option for something like 'init agp/pci video first', probably under a heading of advanced features, and make sure it's on PCI. This tells the bios to look for a PCI video card, instead of that on board piece of crap. BTW , did you buy this at Dixons/PCwomble/Currys?
Dixons, the same place I bought this hunk of  PC
