Actually, after readin a few benchmarks, it makes little difference to most of the cutting edge engines around now, but you'll almost certainly need it in at least a years time. But if you've got nothing better to spend it on, you may as well get it.

Though of course, it may be worth holding out for DDR ram (you get it mainly on gfx cards now, but I'm sure that mobos will soon be able to use DDR modules? anybody?)

Anyway, there ya go, don't know if its any help.

I'd say spring time for DDR boards, you can buy them now but there extremely hard to get hold of. Pretty much all of the benchmark tests have it faster than conventional boards and most have taken an Athlon 1.2ddr against a P4 1.4 and the Athlon has been faster :) Ofcourse as software is written to make use of the P4 it'll become faster but at the incredibly nutty prices there charging for it along with all the extra stuff you'll need (case, psu, mobo) I'm definately upgrading my ageing PIII 450 to an Athlon DDR when they come out mainstream :E
