Saab was the first TurboCharged rally car but sadly was only frontwheel drive

They also had handbrakes on the front wheels which doeasn't help going around corners....

Went to a rally in Wales last year, saw a Hybrid jobby.

Was called a 306R4....

Basically a Pug 306 shell (kinda ;) ) with a Metro 6R4 V6 stuck in the back.

I like the lancia delta, so much so that i couldnt beleive that my cousin bought one a few years back and thats why its on my webby :)

imagine seeing that 306r4 thingy coming down yer road..you'd prolly hear it first tho!
what exactly is it? is there a road going version of it or was it 'hybrided' (soz couldnt think of another word) specially for the rally?

An ickle story..

Sitting in the Welsh Forests, we'd occasinally hear the clatter and "shotgun" of Escorts and Subarus coming thru the mountainsides, then a minute or so later they'd roaar past at about 90 - 100mph.

Subaru flies past us, we settle down for the 2 or so minute wait to hear the next car coming....

frrrAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM.. pis FFRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM....

"Wtf is that?" - i ask my friend

"Oh yes, Andy Burtons 306R4 is coming!!" - My friends dribbles.

We get up to wait for it, expecting it to be in sight soon.

We wait, suddenly the whistles start to blow.. (sign that a cars coming)..

"Woohooo.........errr wait a minute..."

A Mitsu Lancer goes past.

"erm.... i can still hear it"

The 306R4 is still on the other side of a mountain. :O

About 5 minutes later it blasts past us at about 110....

It is one seriously amazing machine.

[JA]JEnKiNs Ive met Andy a few times the 6R4 motor has gone it went about a year ago now it has a Calibra DTM Cosworth V6 from the old DTM Touring car series the parts where getting hard to find for the 6R4 motor the new engine however only lasts 62 miles before it needs rebuliding so only short rallys for this car.

You should see the Alfa Romeo Alfa Sud powered by a Ferrari Dino V6 that he built
