Right, right now Im driving at Pug 205 1.6 GTi ( I love 205's :) ), but since I crashed it last year Ive never been able to restore it to its former glory, and the amount it would cost me to mod it again could be spent on a newer model already modded.

So heres where you come in, I've decided to get another Pug 205, choices are (ill just type out what is said in the adverts, and then anything else i have to add in brackets) :-

A/ 205 XS, 1990, G Reg, 117,000 miles, white, 1.9 GTi lookalike, twin exhaust, alloys, very good condition. Mot'd. £600 ono
(no tax, gorgeous car though went to see it today and will take £500 for it as I was soooo close to buying it)

B/ 205 1.6 GTi 1989, black, excellent condition for year, lowered suspension, 306 alloy wheels, central locking, Mot'd and taxed, £1000 secures.

C/ 205 CTi 1.6, 1987, D reg, white, new black roof (its a convertible hence the CTi), half leather interior, allots, 1 years Mot, £995 ono

D/ 205 GTi (dont know if its a 1.6 or 1.9 and I wouldnt get insurance for a 1.9 but the price says 1.6 to me) 1987, E reg, 97,000 miles, white, Mot'd May 2001, good condition, £600

E/ 205 XS, G reg, average miles, Mot, Mim Alpine alloys, peco 4" exhaust, good condition, spax suspension, £950 (bit pricey? going to have a look today and find out)

So far the only car Ive actually gone to have a look at was A, and I came close to buying it outright, gorgeous car and for an XS goes like a rocket, much faster than my old XS.
Going to see the rest today.

Right, so going on what you know already. Which you plump for?
Id die for the CTi, except its a D. :( and 'A' is pure sex on wheels.

I'm gonna sleep on this m8y but what I would say is be 100% sure that you are able to insure GTi's/CTi's before you hand over any mula - yeah even the 1.6's.

Insurance has gone totally mad just lately so please don't buy any of em till your totally sure you can sort that.

I've got a friend who flogged a 'D' reg CTi about 18 months ago after several years of driving pleasure and it was a great little motor... unlike the Fiat Punto Cabrio which she changed too which she secretly hates!

went to see B, C and D today.

B not worth the cash.

C may have said in the advert 'half leather interior' but what they forgot to mention was where the other half had gone? Had the dog chewed it? Had the bottom half decided to sprout legs and walk away? Who knows?

D, great condition, not as gorgeous as A and 2 yrs older but is a 1.6 GTi and same year as the one I have, except my one squeeks like a bitch cos the fan is ****ed and doesnt turn heads anymore ;(. This is a good car, drives well.

Going to see E tonight.
But so far it has to between A + D.

Whatchas think? :)

This is a tough one m8y.

It's a pity 'C' is out of the equation though - I been having visions of you driving around top down doing chicken impressions at full voice
OMG that would be so funny.

Your obviously in love with 'A' but the mileage is a bit heavy... having said that it is two years younger then 'D'

Hmmm, I think out of the two it must be 'A' despite the mileage but I've got a feeling you are gonna come on here very shorty and say that you have bought 'E'

Call it my Psychic powers ;)

I have bought E. :E

Not, wasnt wirth the cash, was nice but not £950 for an XS nice.

Has to be between A + D.

Should I plump for the gorgeous but slow XS.
Or the older but lesser mileage and faster GTi?
D is still a nice car, just doesnt have the spoiler and twin exhaust that A has, but I like modding my cars anyway.

AAAARGH DECISIONS!!

P.S. lol cook, why would I want to shout my chicken impressions out when i could just record them and play it VERY, VERY[/b], [i]VERY LOUD!!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm......

Well Swany ma dear.

I had a 205 1.9 GTI for about 4 yrs. And I can actually feel a tear coming in me eye when I think about the great times I had in the bast. And after reading your bloody post, I feel like getting another one now. :naughty:

Insurance was always a murder with them though. I had it insured in my Dads name. He called up, and was quoted about £200 3rd party & theft. Then told them "I would like to add my son as a named driver", and the reply was "Ok Sir, that will now be £1127"!!! :hmph: Just lucky I never told them about the £900 Fondmetal alloys and superchip that I had just added! :E

Oh well, getting a bit off topic now.

It depends on the state of option D, I would go for that (If it does turn out to be a 1.6 that is, so ya can get insured without taking out a mortgage on the bast).

If it does turn out to ba a 1.9 jobby though, looks like It will be option A for ya.

But option D is the man to go for if ya can!

The thing is Swany whats the bodywork like on the GTi? Have you checked the sills and wheel arches for rust etc? I can't help thinking that 'A' is gonna be a better long term prospect then 'D'?

I've got a 1991 'H' Fiesta Van that I use for 'work' (shut it KORE) and that thing is falling apart already :(

I'll translate that for you now folks:

the bodywork on D is perfect m8, better than A which has a couple off blemishes on its boot

LO

Which one did you get then?

If was forced to have a peugeot and I'd have to be :E I'd go for D.

The XS is a 1400cc ain't it? 120000 miles is a lot of miles for an engine that size + take into consideration that some boy racer has been driving around in it (the twin exhausts gave it away) then I'd have to say Fook off to that one.

the GTI has prolly had the bollocks thrashed off it as well, but them 1600 lumps are very strong + if the bodywork is in better condition.....then that would be the one for me.

Slightly off topic : I would recommend getting a HPI check on anything which has a GTI badge on da boot mate.

Swany, I dunno if you got a digi camera or not but if so see if you can get us some piccies of these motors because [img] code is on this forum now and we could all have a look :)

I could get em uploaded to some webspace for ya if needed.

Good idea about the HPI check too. I think I'd get one of those done on whatever used car I was buying tbh.

got D in the end peeps, and an HPI check is something i always get anyway, worth the cash to know its not knicked or had ny history.

runs like a dream, i raced a m8 driving his mums 2.0 Audi A4 along the dual carriageway last night and tanned his arse :E ok, granted if there'd been no trucks in our way he wouldve taken me but because he was too scared to undertake and swerve in his mums car and i wasnt i won, bwahahahahaha, oooh what an adrenalin rush :E

just re-read craig's first post and the full effect has just hit me...you SUPPERCHIPPED a 1.9 GTi?? AAAAARGH! :luke:
