View Full Version : Time to Move On ISDN to ADSL?
Hi
Just wondered what anyone has to say regarding the move to ADSL. I currently have HH and to change it to ADSL is going to cost WADS ;(
So before I do it does any one know?
1-The performance increase specifically to online gaming :D
2-The best way to go ref HH to ADSL route (i.e. try a second line first?)
Any advice would be nice!
PS Just before you say it, I cant have cable :(

Ok, a brief summary:
Downloads in kb per second
ISDN Single channel download : 7/8k
ADSL (current bandwidth restrictions) - 60k
As for online gamingit varies. As a rule, it will be comparable to ISDN over Wireplay, around 40-50. However, Barrysworld is a lot kinder and it can ping at 20-30, a good 30ms faster than ISDN so it depends where you play.
You will need to have a standard telephine line in order to have ADSL so if you had your lines converted and don't have a regular one now, you will either have to pay for a new line or wait till your contract on HH is up, someone I know said that the engineers would remove the ISDN stuff and replace the phone line when the contract runs out if you wish, but I went from 56K to ADSL so I can't be too sure on this. You will notice a massive download perfromance increase with ADSL and significant ping improvement depending on who you connect to. Hope this helps.

Yeh right, look at it this way
The way youre talking is at best and on a good day,and lets face it with BT,you can't rely on that,so lets say average ping then please?
More like 80-100 average
I can say the same on my ISDN,at best my 0800 ISP gives pings 80 but at worst 130
on a paying ISP though ill get 60 ping on a 12 player CTF server...
My average ADSL ping is 30-50, downloads seem to be about 40-50k

i too am interested in going from ISDN to ADSL with the littlest amount of bother. Do i have to phone BT and ask them to take out my ISDN first, or can I do it from the web page?
How much will this cost?
thanks
