View Full Version : Anyone played the Omaha beach map yet?
If so whats it like?

I've seen to many crappy beach landing maps, that its annoying... someone needs to make a decent one!
well there are two with beaches..one is crap and too exposed..one is better wit a klarge area behind it
the crap on eyou have to blow up two bunkers at the top of the map ..and it is a very small map...and very exposed..the allies get murdered...but true to life in that respect
in the larger and better one you have to fight up the beach and then there is a small village through some tunnels and then you have to blow up some artillery pieces..much much better map
its basicly Saving prt ryan , it even use sound from film, the whole mod is cool .

yeah I know but a couple of smoking vehicles or something would have helped
or even a radio somewhere on the beach to call in naval fire support 1 every 2 minutes or something

That is a good idea
Cant realy have smoking vehicles as Omaha didnt have any vehicles as all the tanks sank in the channel
alittle more cover on the beach would be nice, more of the anti tank things, you know the X shaped metal stuff ;)

I played the beach map with the village behind it on an 8man server and it was ok-ish, all the Axis did was sit in trenches and fire at the boats ,which while being realistic i guess , on such low numbers isnt fun :|
most of the time id be in a mad dash to get into the water just so I could lay down some fire at the bunkers, which was v cool. It would definately help to have some shingles to get some cover on etc, and had to use some of them bandoliers ( whatever ;) ) to blow up barb wire etc and punch a whole through, but then I guess you'd get even more murdered
I really really really wouldnt want to have been on them landing craft back in the day ....scary

Isnt the omaha beach map a conversion of the one in FireArms. I have only played the FireArms version once and only seen a pic of the DoD one...but they look the same.
i have never played FA omaha map but i would think they look the same due to the fact that they are based on the same location omaha beach :)
the one with the cliff is great for atmosphere, not tried the other one yet
omahah vs well preapred dug in enemy = start of private ryan
I'm not kidding here folks, it's a slaughterhouse.
almost no cover, and there is a HUGE problem with spawn rushing.

I've been to omaha beach ... it's nothing like SPR ... it's flat and no real bluffs to put huge bunker complexes on .. mainly machine gun nests and things because they had so far to move to get into cover.
nightmare, ...can't help thinking though after reading some stuff and also having been there (it hasn't actually changed much minus a few bunkers) that if they'd just payed more attention to our idea for sherman DD's then they'd have actually taken that beach quite easily rather than by a finger nails edge like they did. Still, i suppose war is full of blunders like that ...it's the way of things.
The Omaha map needs another spawn point for the allies, perhaps another boat on the other side of the beach. Also i don't like that there's only one route through to the top, u should be able to jump over the wire fence.
There are two routes up to the village mate.
You can go up the middle, or go up the left, but its the question of getting there, i think more cover or NFGS (naval gunfire support) is needed.
Would be kinda neat to see destroyers sailing across the back, letting rip ;)
I meant that you have to blow up the gate and go through the path in the middle in order to then get up the rope on the left of carry on up the middle path - or am i wrong in thinking this?
BTW apparently the AXIS can call in mortar strikes on the beach, i dunno how u do this though.
I think you use the radios in the bunker under the huge guns.
Both the beach maps are superb, as the allies its a slaughter, but that makes so much more challenging.
I'll play the allies over the axis anyday.

i prefered the allies aswell dent :)
although one bit when i was the axis in the main bunker i had nerdy trapped behind the anti landing craft thingy .. squirming whilst i snipered at him ... was great ..felt like i was in SPR :)
/me needs some real life friends :E

you must have the directors cut where they all go mad and join the germans :)
Running up that beach with my Garand rifle in hand and watching the sniper/mg rounds hitting the sand around me is something else, when you reach the wall you breath a sigh of relief before climbing the rope and lobbing a grenade into a bunker to kill that bloody sniper who has killed you 3 times in a row before hand.
This mod is everything I hoped it to be, and as you can see I get a bit involved. :)

I keep running into invisible walls on that map
No one can tell my why :(
I run to the grass notice people jumping over the barb wire, I try that myself.... nothing happens. Ok I thought go up the middle.
So I run to the end of the grass where the ramp is... I cant get of the grass..... I try jumping nothing happens... I get shot.
i played on a server that only did that map so i quite like it now. Also if u want a realy good beach map u should play TFC and there is going to be a new map comming out soonish on the WP servers by a good m8 of mine called DarthDivi u my know him. he is a TFC admin and the map is very GOOD.

Havnt played this dod mod much, but it seems to have some nice textures for me to pimp :) My map is basically a dustbowl for tfc based 3 point capture system based on saving private ryan - the beach landing, the sniper tower incident and the final battle at the bridge.
Its cool and big and taking fooking ages to make :)
