Things to remember about DOD

Its set in WW2 rifles were far more powerful then they are today, but the technolagy in pistols and submachineguns has changed dramtaicaly - dont expect ninties resutls in 40's tech

its a realisitc game most guns kill in 1/2 shots

you may think its dmatch at first but you will realise playing in a team fasion will up survivability tremondously simply because suppresive fire is deadly!

all in all remmber the team set out to make a realistic team game set in WW2 they have achieved that so dont moan about there not being bunnyhopping or being killed by pistols etc. please :)

Yeah it is very well done i think and i wouldn't like it any other way my self.

I find that rifles are alot better all round then the sub-M and machine guns,the Light Inf weapons are the best.

Worth playing the mod just to hear the *ping!* sound when you finnish a clip. Sounds cool :)


It's buggy (*ahem* the snow map is stupid), but some of the maps are really cool.
You should be able to pick up weapons from dead people though.



Hopefully the mod wont be overrun by CS llamas though...going by last nights offical irc channel, it already has. :/

Ive been on the official forums reading and cant belive how many CSers have come in dissing the game and saying it has to be like CS.

This Mod is the best first beta i have played of any HL mod ive tried,i hate the way CSers have attacked DoD on the forums because "it isnt like CS".

I hope they dont cave into Valve&public pressure and make this game in the same way CS devoloped,keeping a hard core following rather than making changes to attract the same ****witts that are killing CS now.

The offical DoD forums got spammed by loads of people from the offial CS forum a while back (DoD team had to shut the site down).

Sad thing is, one of the spammers was a CS forum admin...

I never understood why on earth the implimented such a stupid thing into the rifles the americans obviously like to advertise that youd finished your clip so they added a nice little ping in the plate to give it away. hey look hes out of ammo kill him :)

Silly if you ask me id prefer to not have my level of ammo advertised :) should be fun for games though online hehe out of ammoo are you mwahaha :)

Its not a ping as such...the bullets came in a clip, the clip was a small metal casing...this is the reason you cannot reload a half empty clip in the m1....when all the bullets in the clip are fired the rifle automatically ejected the casing causing that noise..then you could then reload a full clip again...and yes the enemy soon learned to listen out for it....but it was still a fine rifle and very useful for all its (very few) shortcomings

However one trick the GI's soon learnt was to keep an empty clip and to thrown it on the ground to make the Germans think they had run out of ammo...when of course they were sitting there laughing to themselves with a full clip ;)

I think he meant that the rifles were comparatively more effective than the automatic weaponry of the 30s-40s.

perhaps not..the Mauser Kar98 had a huge range and used a massively powerful cartridge and bullet as the Americans found out to their cost during their pre-war invasion of cuba. The americans were equipped with a very poor rifle wit a modest range and an unusual loading mechanism ( the name of it escapes me for the minute) ..now the spanish and cubans were equipped with the mauser that they could basically pick of the amercans with before they even got in range and it is documented that the Mauser could penetrate two men if they were standing close enough behind each other, even at extreme ranges.

no really the garrand and the other rifles fired a far more powerfull round,

they were designed to take out people at large distances,

nowdays with combat in urban climes the rounds are less powerfull, the us who had been the stalwart in long range powerful rounds infact lead the change as can be seen in the far less powerful 5.62 cartdige in the m16 a2 (the m16 a1 had however been the most powerful 7.62 assault rifle) and in the uk the change from the slr to the sa 80

I foudn the name of that crappy rifle the Americans were stuck with .. the Krag...used in the Spanish/American war around 1898


The Krag gave yeoman service under the leisurely stresses of daily military use while in garrison or training. But under the unforgiving eye of combat, it failed miserably.

Guns could kill you...for example ..say you were an extremely lazy gun collector who left all his guns lying around on the stairs, you could trip on them, fall down the stairs and break your neck.

er no. The M16A1 was the first 5.56mm assault rifle mate. You're thinking of the M14
