I'm getting a fairly regualar lock up under win2k
The blue screen of death message says:
--------------------------------------
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0xC104027E,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804A5DE6)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
*** Address 804A5DE6 base at 80400000, Date Stamp 39760637 - ntoskrnl.exe
Beginning dump of physical memory
---------------------------------------
This usually happens when i'm connected to the net and starting another program like UT or CS.
When this happens i use the reset button and the PC just sits there with a blank screen and does nothing. Using the reset button again makes the Mother Board (Award BIOS) bleep once, and then nothing.
the only cure is to switch off at wall and on again.
can some1 plz tell me what's going on?!

You using no name cheap memory? or is it running hot under strain. I've been using Win2k since beta3 and it hasn't Blue screened once, infact my PC has been on for about three weeks now without even turing it off :)
Same here...my PC have just passed the 4 weeks mark now and still running :E Some test PC at work I use have been on for few months now and they're still fine, no OS rot as you get with NT4/9x...very impressive considering it's from MS :E
It might be cheapo memory as Win2K is much more senstive to those sort of things. List your hardware spec as it's usually a hardware driver that cause it (make sure you get Win2000 specific drivers)
Search Results (http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/psssearch.asp?SPR=win2000&T=B&KT=ALL&T1=7d&LQ=STOP%3A+0x0000000A+&S=F&A=T&DU=C&FR=0&D=ntrelease%2Bor%2Bierelease%2Bor%2Bcrossnet&LPR=%22windows+2000%22&LNG=ENG&VR=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fsupport%3Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fsu pport.microsoft.com%2Fservicedesks%2Fwebcasts%3Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fsupp ort.microsoft.com%2Fhighlights&CAT=Support&VRL=ENG&SA=GN&Go.x=18&Go.y=16)
Try one of those articles...perhaps if you're running a VIA chipset mobo, it might be one of the article in there but have a look.

thanks for those kb results...
i DO have a VIA system board (but i have applied SP1 and the other 2k fixes from the windows update site, shouldn't that solve it?)
if memory is the problem is there a method to test it?
i have also checked up on the bleep codes i was getting when the PC locks up (all it says on the site is "mother board error" which isn't much use.
ideas guys?
How much memory do you have? And how many sticks are you using for that (eg if 256Mb then are you using 2x128Mb sticks?)

i have 1x128mb of PC-100 SD-RAM
...if that helps
Sorry for long delay :)
Hopefully you got it sorted and already working and so I'm wasting my time here but anyway here goes:
Motherboard error...yeah not very helpful, could be a problem with your motherboard though...but to rule out dodgy memory, there is a program called PC Check (http://www.eurosoft-usa.com/) which have a excellent feature for checking your memory...there's a demo available for download you know what to do :naughty:
If your memory is OK...check out your motherboard...might need to replace it :( PC Check issues many hardware calls to your PC so if it fail on one point, it'll find it.
