Is it necessary?
Where do you get the upgrades?
How do you do it?

Hi
I only reccomend them if you are experiencing problems which could be sorted by a bios update (usually memory problems, and CPU recognition, with the odd expansion card problem).
Such problems will often be listed on the manufacturer's website on the same page as the bios.
You usually get the bios update and utility from the website of the company that makes your motherboard.
Remember you need the bios for your exact motherboard, sometimes down to the revison of the board (usually marked on the board). The site should say which motherboard model/revision the bios is for.
You will normally also be able to get the bios flash utility from the same site.
Bios flashing instructions are usually on the same page as the bios.
WARNING
Flashing a bios can go badly wrong, in which case keep the followoing URL handy http://www.flashbios.org they can reflash your bios if you mess it up (about £20), or replace it. A lot of motherboard manufacturer's can also reflash your bios for a small fee, or sell you a new bios chip.
If after flashing you cannot boot, remove all cards, leave it unplugged from the mains for about half an hour with the "cmos clear" jumper set, then put the "cmos clear" jumper to it's normal position and try to boot with just the CPU memory and video card in.

Thanks m8 appreciate the help, will print out your advice.....you say it may not be necessary unless there are any noticable problems? I bought the computer back last April, do they not need upgrading like drivers???

Jp - as Werewolf said, it's uonly something that should be done if you are experiencing problems. I've only done it once and needed asbestos underwear during the operation.
Unless you are confident that you need a BIOS upgrade I wouldn't recommend one. I'd say that 95% of PC's (maybe higher) never need or have a BIOS upgrade.
ok m8 thanks for the advice, will leave well alone for the moment!!:cheese:
