View Full Version : POST Beeps?
Hi all, Bascially I have just bought an old computer for cheap which will not boot up, there is no POST beep, I know that one of the reasons is a fooked Motherboard, I was just wondering what other reasons there are, reason I am saying that is, I am currently building my Dads back together, nothing has changed since it was taken apart, all parts been kept safe in anti static bags, but yet, no post beep. Any ideas????
Cheers in Advance chaps!

Are you sure there is power getting thru' ? Is the PSU fan working ? Any sign of life from the drive(s) or LED's ? It could be a borked PSU or power cable.
All Power is working, got power to CD Drive, Fan is running and all Led's are working. Everything seems to be OK, just with my Dads PC I know it was working before, so cant see why there is no POST beep. On the other one I bought, nothing is on the screen. It does have one of those stupid lock things, does that just cut off the power supply? or the stop motherboard power?
Also, if I was to put a new mobo and Duron 650 in it. Will the PSU be up to it, it is a 220 Watt

Well, if you have power to the fans and the drives etc .... are you sure that you have:
The IDE cable(s) inserted correctly
The RAM seated properly
The CPU seated properly
The video card seated properly
Any one of these out by a fraction could cause the problem you are referring to. I'd suggest making sure that all above components are seated correctly in their sockets/slots and try again.
It's also worth noting that whenever you do something like this, start off with the minimum amount of components. Try and get the system up with the least amount installed and then add one bit at a time, resolving any issues you come across.
As for using the same PSU for a new AMD setup, I'd say no. AMD CPU's are power hungry and you'd be far better off with an AMD approved 300W+ PSU to feed the beast. Click on my bottom :shakin: (http://www1.amd.com/duron/npower/index/1,1766,,00.html) for a list of AMD approved PSU's. Alternatively, visit OcUK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_ATX_Power_Supplies_33.html) and get one of the Macron units. For the sake of £30, it's not worth risking your current your new system with your current PSU.
