Hi all,
I have heard people mention that they are using the Pipex cache instead of the Blue Yonder cache when browsing, and getting much faster results. Does anyone know how to configure the browser to use the Pipex cache?

Care to share it with the rest of us? :) And does it work?

yes it works, it is about 3 times as fast at browsing and downloading, for me anyway.

What you need to do is this:

START->SETTINGS->CONTROL-PANEL->INTERNET OPTIONS
CONNECTIONS->LAN SETTINGS

the last line may differ depending on which os you have. You need to find the screen with the Proxy Server settings on it.
Find it and put a tick in USE PROXY SERVER
Put the following entry in the address: webcache.pipex.net
And the following entry in the port: 3128

That's it, should be loads faster now.

Please post your findings here to let me know how you got on!

Cheers m8. I don't actually get my cable for another couple of weeks - I'm just collecting as many tweaks as I can now :) I'll certainly give that a try though.

It's not so much a tweak more of a workaround, since they put the gigabit link in the webcache and external access for the trasparent cache have been dropping packets and not replying to the CM's properly. Using the Pipex cache as it's on port 3128 skips the transparent cache and provides http access vai a different route. Once they sort the problem out it'll be a hell of a lot faster than the Pipex cache :E

Hmmm :dork:

A webcache is like your temporary internet files on your local hd but it's a big ass server at your isp thats holding the pages. The idea is the first person goes off to a web site like gameplay.com and the webcache server goes off gets the data and passes it on to you but it also keeps a note of the site and any pics etc so when the next person comes along rather than go off to gameplay.com and get the data then send it back to the second person it just provides the info it's already got making it a lof faster than say going off to the site every time. It also cuts down on the amount of wasted bandwidth flying about the network and there are checks to make sure it has the latest page so you don't get out of date pages.

The problem with Blueyonders one is it's going off getting the pages but then not passing them onto the user properly so it ends up timing out your end or takes forever to load a page and you think hey WTF! I'm a phat pipe here :)
