Hi,
Has anybody bought a CPU from Overclockers UK...
One of the 'guaranteed' modified versions. I'm looking at getting an Althon 1GHz and the thought of squeezing 1.15GHz out of it is appealing esp. without me doing all the fiddly work.
Also what's their service like? I've previously bought from dabs.com and they were very good but i've just discovered Overclockers UK (by reading these posts) and may give them a go.
Cheers all ;)

I havent ordered a CPU from OCuk, so I dont know about there "garantueed" CPU speeds.
But everything else that I have ordered has been ontime and in good working condition.

hi
i've had 2 of their cpu's no bother.
if you do get one and have trouble contact them and they will usually get it sorted pretty fast :)
As for service i've made about 5 orders now (2 cases, dvd drive and decoder, video card, 2x cpu's and heatsinks), 3 were delivered next day the other 2 were delivered about 3 days later (the problem with ordering on a friday night/bank holiday).

OcUK range of products - excellent.
OcUK service - excellent.
OcUK prices - excellent.
OcUK saying guaranteed on the CPU's ? Hmmmm.
Take the last with a pinch of salt. You can only reach the guaranteed speeds on the motherboard(s) they reccomend - I've no argument with that. It's the other things in the case that you need to be aware of to reach the so called 'guaranteed' speed. You will need - among other things :
A very good heat sink and fan for the CPU as it will get very hot.
Good case cooling
AMD approved PSU to feed the CPU
Quality PC133 CAS2 RAM
Hope that your PCI cards don't mind a bit of a FSB push.
Without some or all of the above, you probably won't hit the 'guaranteed' speed of the CPU. I myself have bought a good case, PSU, mobo and guaranteed CPU from them but have not been able to get it stable at the 'guaranteed' speed. My Duron 650 guaranteed to hit 900 will run no faster than 864 and thats after plenty of tweaking, BIOS upgrades and cooling modifications. The main reason I think mine won't go any higher is the RAM - it's only CAS3 at PC133 - and it doesn't like the FSB over 101.
Now please don't get me wrong. I LOVE Overclockers and have advised many people to shop there. It's the first place I look at for anything I need. It's just that I think that their policy of selling 'guaranteed' CPU's is a little misleading. IMHO, it would be better to sell the CPU's as unlocked and under the right conditions could reach or exceed speed XXXmhz.
Guaranteed ? I don't believe you should listen to that bit too much.
Like I said, they are a good company. Use 'em.
Good luck.

i wouldn't have a bad word said against their service etc, top notch :E havn't ordered a bundle from them but i imagine they would be very good. As for the guarantees, i can't help you, but yes, they are very good indeed.

Just ordered the Abit KT7/Duron 750 bundle from them - expecting it tomorrow :E
Ive ordered a few things from them - memory, psu, gfx card and they all work perfectly. Good prices too :)
Put it this way, there are plenty worse places to shop online - Jungle, Insight etc.
I say go for it m8 :)
I have a Duron 650 +Abit M/B package from them guaranteed to 900 mhz but it'll only do 850 stabally (sp?), I only run it at 700 to 750 anyway coz otherwise the fan comes on on the front of my case and it's like a bloody jet engine :)
I'm still very pleased with there service though, I have had no troubles at all......
Piglet out......

Thx for the advice all :)
'Guaranteed' overclocked CPUs does seem a contradiction.
But as the saying goes.....you pays your money and take a chance!
I just hope its not an expensive one ;)
