Web graphics are a sort of underrated part of art. It can be really hard to make a graphical website look good and making a decent logo for a web site can be hard too.

Anyone who does a bit of web design and would like to show off some of their logo's etc then post em here :E

Heres some I've done:

This was made for a CS clan called 820 (http://www.clan820.barrysworld.net):

This is for me and Wildwayz clan forum hosting (http://www.clan-sites.com) webby:

Some of those won't ever be used, so you're probably some of the few people to see them.

I also did all the graphics on the Clan Wars site.

And the title header for Yarn too.

um scanlinining web pics is almost more popular than wooden floors from ikea and b&q.

They just add a more computerised kinda look to the images....

I might try vertical scan lines and see how they look :E

Photoshop is good for filters and general print design. But for Web graphics and design you can't go wrong with Fireworks. Everything is tailored for web use and the slicing tool is a lifesaver.

Web pages done with Photoshop used to take double the time doing them in Fireworks does.

It also has a great fill texture feature which can save a lot of time doing your Interlace effects.

Brocken
18-01-2001, 14:48
lol, theres a fill texture option on PS 5.5 so interlace graphics only take a second to do...

I was only kiddin before :P

The thing about Photoshop is can't draw circles and rectangles directly, which is a pain.

Also, the advantage of Fireworks is that you can adjust and add bezier points to your shapes therefore controlling them like vectors.

It doesn't have the filters of Photoshop, but using the two together you can take over the world! :)

well, maybe not. but you can create excellent grpahics and swanky web pages.

Brocken - I wasn't replying to you directly about the interlace fill, mate. I wouldn't have thought you did do your interlace fill pixel by pixel, but there are some people out there who never fail to amaze :)

mm crammus Lasso Tool , or 1 big blob with brush ...

Photoshop=bitmap/vector(this only applies for ps 6) ,
Fireworks=Vector ...

Sar hope u know that PS 6 is way slower than PS 5

many people seem to hate ps 6 why i shall not know .. oo well

Photo Shop is also quite l33t for paintings which is funny

but look at http://www.goodbrush.com shows what ps can do

very nice art on that site.. wish I could draw like that ;(

Tiger
18-01-2001, 20:43
Yes, that is excelant!
You can draw circles by click on the Shape Tool, and going to the View > Toolbars > Control Palette (depending if it's open or not)
then selecting which shape! :D

PS 6 is the same speed for me as 5 was.

Then again I have a fairly beefy comp anyhow.

The biggest pain about 6 was getting used to the altered interface, and the fact a lot of keyboard shortcuts have changed, which led to no small amount of frustration for the first few weeks.

But now I'm well used to it, and I love it as much as I did 5, moreso infact, because it automates a lot of things for you now.

And Crammus: You can get what's called "Shapes" in Pshop 6 which draw circles, rectangles, basically any shape you want. They are editable too, so you can add/delete points at will, and combine shapes to create new ones.

But I wouldn't use PShop to create web pages.

I'll use DW4 for that. PShop for me is for graphics only.

yes well we're still waiting for our copies of PhotoShop 6 which i'm really looking forward to.
thanks for the info on the shapes though, it's about time it included a shape tool.

I've got PS 5.5

is it worth getting 6?

Sar
19-01-2001, 17:22
Probably not.

I hadn't got 5.5, and went straight from 5 and found it worthwhile.

Don't think it'd be worth the money though for the 5.5-6.0 upgrade.

Mind you if you've nothing else to spend £160 on then it wouldn't hurt ;)

Tiger
