Just installed a Creative CD-R, followed instructions (as you do) and everything seemed hunky-dorey. CD-R writes OK, plays audio CDs(as does the original CD drive) but the original CD will no longer play DVDs and complains about it needing a separate audio package, have I missed something ?

Maybe the Creative software has overwritten/deleted something that your DVD player needed ? Have you tried re-installing the DVD software that came with the drive ?

That's only a guess mind .....

Have re-installed the software (WinDVD) and still get the same message....

"Software DVD playback performance will be contingent upon the overall speed and power of your system. An audio subsystem must be present for this software to be fully functional" "Macrovision protected DVD titles will not be displayed on your TV if Macrovison protection hardware is not present"

My system itself is not an issue (re the speed and power bit), 'audio subsystem' ???
'Macrovision protection hardware' what the asre is that ?

help apreciated...

Macrovision is the system employed to stop you copying the DVD to video - I think. Yep just checked their webby (http://www.macrovision.com/index.html) and it's a security system.

So, you are trying to use a software DVD player (WinDVD) that cannot detect your audio hardware - assuming that this worked before you installed the CR-R, then logically, it should be the CD-R software causing the issue. I hope.

Can you tell us what hardware you now have ? Mobo, cpu, video card, RAM, sound, and the makes/models of the DVD & CD-R drives ?

Hardware....
Abit KT7, Athlon AMD 900, Voodoo 3500, 160 RAM, creative SB16PCI, Pioneer DVD-ROM 113, Creative 12x10x32 CD-R (all on a 300w PSU)

maybe I need some new software to run the DVDs, the audio CDs work OK off that drive (or maybe I'm just straw clutching)
