lo

i have a gef 2 64mb and ever since i've had it my lowest ping is around 10-15 higher than it was with my old v3 3000.

I have some up to date drivers for it and i've turned off vertical sync and sync every frame.

The main game i play is q2.

It's running off an Athlon 1 ghz with 256mb pc 133 ram.

Any suggestions as to why my ping may have increased?

(I'm lpb - formerly pinging around 35-45 now pinging 45-60+)

Cheers

Seems a long shot, but I can ony think of one thing that might result in a graphics card affecting connection: conflicts (IRQ and so on). Have you checked Device Manager to see if it shows any conflicts, or failing that and sharing of resources - particularly relating to graphics card and modem/terminator (whatever you is using).

Can't think of anything else right now.

With Quake 2 you need to cap your maximum frame rate at about 100 frames per second. Otherwise you flood your bandwidth with it trying to send too much data. Unfortunately I can't remember the command, try the quake 2 board.

cheers for the advice.

1. q2 fps (cl_maxfps :) i have it set at 120 - which i figure my system should be able to handle - but most servers cap it at 100 or even 80 anyway.

2. I found in my device manager a 'mass storage controller device' which was not installed properly. I uninstalled it and immediately my pings in gamespy fell from 55 ish to 40 ish.

However in the game - they still remain higher :(

When i restarted the pc tried to install the device again - but i've no idea what it is or what it does or where its drivers are

does anyone have any ideas?
