Anyone help me sort out my hdd it should be 8 gigs but think i made a bo bo when i reformatted, was partioned at 2gigs 6gigs now all i can get out of it is 2 gigs. tryed all the useall things but no joy
I suspect it has been partitioned properly. In order to get it right you will have to FDISK your HDD. But remember this will get rid of any information on the drive so make sure you make a backup of all necessary data.
Read this (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q255/8/67.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=How%20to%20use%20FDISK&rnk=4&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98SE) MS article on how to use FDISK.
And hopefully it will enable you to use and see all of your HDD.

tryed useing fdisk but it only sees a Hdd of 2gigs and no more, tryed reformatting, still no joy and my new motherboard {abitKT7 Raid} bios only sees 2gigs on auto detec.....?????
Are you sure you set it to use 100% of the HDD in FDISK?
Also you may want to see what check disk sees your HDD as, you probably need to format first though. When your done boot up with a boot disk and when you get there change to the c: drive. Then type chkdsk and write it all in here what it tells you.
And if your BIOS only recognises it as a 2gigs then you may have a dogy HDD or even the wrong one?

Just some suggestions to keep the brain cells working...
How about disablling auto detect in the BIOS and manually entering the settings (usually on a label on the disk)?
Didn't there used to be an actual 2Gb limit to disks cos of addressing limits? Is that a clue here? (e.g. old bios, os, software of some sort)
Are you trying to reformat as one 8Gb drive, or staying with 2 + 6? Have you tried the other way?
If it worked on your old mobo does it work in another PC? Would eliminate drive or mobo issue
Am I helping?
