Compiler Probs

Does anyone no if its possible to compile the quake source code without msvc (like, with another compiler)? And if it is poss does any 1 now how?

as far as i remember Quake was compiled with DJGPP when sent out for public release, so i see no reason why you shouldnt be able to compile it with that
