Lo all.

Originally a MS Sidewider Precision 2,..never worked!
Replaced by a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold. This worked fine apart from having to check the Compatability box in peripherals every time I enter an arena, if I wanted the rudder to work in both directions. Ok, I could live with that.

Now,...at 4pm everything is normal. I booted the system up just now, for some righteous mayhem, and....guess what! The joystick doesn't work!... At all!! Unrecognised except as 'Unkown device' in device manager. Games controller box is empty. Saitek software can't see it. Re-install the software, connect it up...nothing happens., except showing up as unknown device, and that's not every time.

I am 'annoyed', to say the least.

I am beginning to see the attraction of the keyboard. Get a few more digits grafted on, or stand near Sellafield for a while, and I'll be off. At least the 'blessed' thing will work. Computers tend to recognise their keyboards, after all.

I can just see the smug smiles on the faces of the keyboard lobby! he he he.

Seriously, any ideas..again!

Friend had the same problem, we fixed it by uninstalling the joystick from game controllers, then unplugging it, and plugging it back in (if USB it should recognise straight away), and installing in game controllers again.

If ure using the gameport on the sound card, try using latest soundcard drivers as well.
Make sure the gameport is ok in device manager.

Thanks for replies.

It still doesn't work. It is USB, not gameport, but it's own software doesn't recognise it. The system recognises it as 'Unknown USB Device', but nothing happens. I can't believe it's broken, it hasn't had enough abuse yet. Unplugging it and plugging back in,...nothing. Re-install software and plug back in,....nothing. Swear at it,...nothing. Dunno what to do.

Regarding keyboard usage. I had a go. ha ha ha. Like trying to ride a unicycle for the first time, while juggling..for the first time. I should try it in rookies, give everyone a laugh!!
