It's been rated as one of the best films ever, and the best amnie film ever.

Anyone else seen it?

Were did you order this from. It costs abou £18 maybe less at Play247. I'm going to get this aswell but Play247 are currently out of stock. I've read a lot of customer reviews on Amazon and 99% are good (many saying it's the best anime ever made).

I just got it on R1 DVD.

It's absolutely stunning. I've never seen such a jaw-droppingly beautiful animated feature in my life.

The actors that do the english voice-over are very good (makes a change for a Japanese cartoon) and the music is superb.

I was even quite taken by the story which unlike almost all anime I've ever seen is neither obscure nor pretentious.

My copy was finally posted this week. Hell of a wait it's been.

Got the region 1 DVD. Great movie, but technically I don't think it stands up to Akira or Ghost in the Shell, the animation just doesn't seem quite so fluid.

Definitely worth a purchase though, and I'm sure that everyone will disagree with my comments above anyway...

It was the backdrops that got me Snwbdr. They're really amazing. Although you might be right in part, the human characters weren't really that special, I thought the animals and especially the gods/demons were brilliantly drawn.

I saw Akira a few years ago and I've got Ghost in the Shell on DVD. I've got to admit I was quite disappointed with both of them. I mean they both looked great but I was never able to really get into the stories.

However, I can't fault Princess Mononoke in any way, it had me hooked from the start and was quite simply breathtaking.

I agree that Mononoke has the best story of the three films, is quite accessible and has some great static artwork. I still rate the market scenes in Ghost as some of my favourite artwork, and the bullet effects from the tank in Ghost are awesome, but the story didn't grab me like Mononoke. Akira suffers from the same problems with the fairly obscure storyline but as I mentioned I was only offering criticism on a technical level, and I think Mononoke suffers as the characters just seem to lack the finesse that oozes from the rest of the film.

Good to see I didn't just get flamed by Mononoke zealots, this board is still one of the few where you can actually have a decent discussion WITH differing viewpoints (shock horror)!

Just want a decent Akira DVD now...

I was quite supprised with the English Voice-overs, very well done.

Interestingly, i watched Ninja Scroll a few days later on DVD (I'm told it's rated highly for a manga film). It just seemed so....badly made. Animation was terrible, as was the drawings.

Anyway, this is one of the best films i've ever seen, well worth getting.
It's not perfect though, the Forest God looks stupid ;)

I was very impressed with princess Mononoke. I think it's the little details that make it all the better and the story is accessible and quite touching. I hate the English dub though. Most people say it is one of the best but it makes me cringe. As for Ghost in the Shell the plot is pretty hard to follow but I love the tank scene. Now if only I could get the other parts of the Akira graphic novels. I only have the first part.

I had to pay £30 for Mononoke as well, but it's WELL worth it.

It is my favorite anime ever. and whilst the story isn't nearly as complete as the Nausicaa manga, It is only 2 hours long.

Plus the DVD is great, I haven't watched the dub, and don't plan to (haven't watched the Perfect Blue dub either, and I've had that 6 months), but Disney caved in and gave us the original track (and no dubtitles) so I'll never have to expose myself...

Dark Horse publishing are currently committed to re-printing the whole Akira run in Trade form. I believe Titan has the UK reprint license so we should hopefully see them available.
