are these 1v1 and ta rooms for any reason in particular???? and any ideas when pa's will be introduced on wp 3?

Ok, latest info.

Unfortunately, the tech team have not yet managed to create a password protected PA for WP3 arenas. This means that any squad game (or even 1v1) that is started on WP3 is open to all.....so any idiot, deliberate or not, can go straight in and wreck a game. Therefore, whilst PAs will exist on WP3 for people willing to risk a 1v1 or even squad practice/friendly, WP2,3 PAs will continue to be used for League Games.

TK has worked very hard to ensure that we keep our seperate 2.3 based server, when it could easily have been taken away. Remember, GP want *everything* WP3 based as best as possible.

So, until we have pasword protection (and we might never have it - have to see), I am not sanctioning official matches on WP3. It is open to abuse, problems and hassle. Admins being there to stop troublecausers is not always possible and is partly shutting the stable door etc.....

T/As were going to be the WP3 match PAs, but I have asked TK to have them as low priority as all match stuff should still be WP2.3.

As a footnote, I cannot understand any squadron wanting to play a match on WP3 with the current open status of the arenas.

I'll keep you posted if I hear anything further.

TKFM and 616 had to hold their friendly (well, mostly friendly ;) ) match on monday on WP3 as WP2.3 was down.
It worked fine but we did have some gate crashers.
One guy was nice and asked if he could sit on a neutral runway and watch :) but one or two others were a bit more awkward.
Getting targetted by two whole squads tends to get the point across fairly quickly :) but while this is a minor irritation in a friendly match it would be a bigger problem in a proper match.
It would be ok if an admin was on-hand but obviously this won't always be possible. If we don't get pw protection on WP3 then maybe an admin will need to be 'on-call' during matches.

Thats the problem Gari, an admin cannot be expected to be on hand and even then, once someone has gatecrashed and killed a few peeps (and wrecked the scores) it's all over bar the shouting. I think we all know that once *anything* goes wrong in a match, chaos ensues.

I think we need to acknowledge that TK deserves a few pints for maintaining the 2.3 pa arenas for us, because without them, squadron matches/competitions on WP3 (as it stands)would descend into farce and anarchy with any tom dick or harry being able to "gatecrash" and ruin them.

Anyhow, I know TK is still working on the possibility of getting password protections for WP3 PAs, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Yeah good point. Better leave that discussion on hold until we need it.... (which we hopefully won't)

In the meantime everything crossable is crossed :E

that fills me with confidence :)

could a stripped down version of da tools be given out to refs, so that they could close the arena once everyone is inside, and re-open to change sides and the like. They would also need to be able to reset scores.......

cause surely we need a back-up plan if we cant get password protected PA's.......

Does this mean that international pilots can access the PA's on 2.3 with any ISP now??

Its just that we have four or five pilots that can't get a game at the mo due to not being able to use 2.3.

There's no point in this IJ, unless we are ever faced with a scenario where we have no WP2.3 PAs and are forced to use non-pw protected WP3 PAs. If the worst did, one day, happen then I would certainly consider this for sure.

In the meantime, 2.3 remains and therefore renders this option null and void.....sort of thing. :)

The ability to play with Mac and Rocky's tools is a dubious priviledge at best...
