So what way are you gonna be playing the game?
Good or Evil?
Or Neutral?
And why?

Im undecided I want to see how the game works before I make my decision. I would really like to have a disobidient creature that was the exact opposite of me. But I dont think you can do that.
You can't. Your actions directly determine what way the creature evolves, mainly because it mimics your actions.
So if you play as a benevolent god, your creature evolves as a good creature. Likewise for Evil and Neutral.
I gotta be evil. Cos I want my cow to be evil. Then I'll have an Evil Cow...

im gonna take a different view on the whole black or white thingy and am just going to play the game and make decisions on the fly. I dont want to set out and try to be iether. In one choice i will probably help someone, but on the next choice i may be busy doing something else, so ill just let the stranded kiddie rot!

I dont suppose thats a realvent question. Since the titan is supposed to be shaped by your personality. That is if Peter Molyneux is to be belived. So you'd only get a really evil titan, if you are really evil too. It would sort of ruin the point of the game if you sat down at the start and said "Im going to make a really evil titan today".

I know what you mean monkey. I spent a lot of time there when the game was due for release last year and have not been back much coz all they seem to do is flame people for asking relatively sensible questions if a bit repetative.
Ho hum. Surely you can reverse the way in which your image is cast. If you decide you are really evil you must be able to redeem yourself and become only semi-evil?

The whole point of the game is that there is no Black or White... Well, there is, but there are so many shades of grey in between that you'd be hard-pushed to be pure evil or good.
I wanna see just what the limits of the AI is going to be like... i want to see if i can just leave my comp running online all day while i'm at work and if my titan has successfully guarded my people or learnt anything while i was away... (me loves my cable)
Don't forget though, it is an RPG at its core, so you can roleplay a personality completely at odds with your true personality.
Take me for instance, I like to think I'm a fairly good person, but I'll probably roleplay it utterly evil after a while to see the consequences.
And PCMonkey: if you keep switching between good and evil, you're gonna be neutral in the long-run.

B&W though, will this be another ‘Bullfrog’ almost but not quite game? Up to now I’ve owned and played quite a few, and although they have so much promise and look so good, programming masterpieces even? But there’s always something about them that after a while they just play repetitively.
I may well wait for the budget release to be honest.
That makes no sense at all. (only saddos play games on their Pcs.) SO you have a PC, right, and you only play game on your DC. I'm guessing your PC's a pile of nargle harbit or something, because a console just can't compair to power of a good PC. Games is games play them on the best system you can afford. B&W will be best seen on a PC, your DC will not have the power to give you the best AI or graphics. Neither will a PS2. there main CPU's arn't really all that powerful and they don't really have much RAM. even when the Xbox arrives it won't be as good as a new PC. If you have a good PC then buy B&W for it, you'll get software updates, free add on bits a propper on line game. Only an idiot gets iron when he can get gold for the same price.

The best way to play B&W imho is neutral.If you play as a good god then you won`t have full access to the destructive spells, and visa versa as an evil god.The key is balance, with a slight sway to either side.
It will be fun trying to play a game as pure evil though, just to see how much your tribes loathe you and stop worshiping.
If you kill all the tribes then no-one worships you , so you then have no power........hope that came out right.:)

Consoles are very limited in their usefulness. And if they are so wonderful, then why are they trying to become more like computers? Surely if consoles were so great PC would be becoming more like Consoles?

For the cost of a brand new PS2, I could upgrade my PC by quite a bit.
Plus after buying a collection of games, all of which cost between 1.5 and 2 times what a PC game does, you're running at a loss in comparison to me.

Listen in 30 years time people will still remember games like Goldeneye,Final Fantasy and Super Mario bros. All console classics. Nobody will care about Quake 3 part 1,000,000 and the rest of that rushed BOLLO*KS you get on the PC. The best you look forward to are ports of Playstation games like MGS1 and Final Fantasy 7&8 which were full of bugs and slowdown and came months late.

Know what you mean, but lotsa games end up like that, At least this type of game play might have something new to offer. Most games follow a formular we've all played to death.
Thats why I gave my PS1 away. I was bored of the endless driving and beat 'em up games. Everything else needs a mouse and keyboard to do it justice. That's why the DC quake players have to have there own kiddy pool to play in so the big boys don't pick on them.

Oz my house is tidy enough for my girlfriend and I spend to many hours playing PC games together on our linked up PCs. For your Console shrunken brain its a bit like trying to crowd round a portable television in your spotlessly tidy and oh so tastfully decorated room with your very speical friends for some four way action, except its much better.
FF8 is not a classic, it was just "good for a console". Golden Eye the same. Now go and play "generic hitting each other 10" or maybe "driving around quite quickly 9"

Well I`ve played both, owned every console ever released ( bar DC and PS2).
I take it you`ve never played Baldur`s Gate OZ?......................and what`s wrong with ABBA,just because it`s not your taste in music doesn`t mean it`s no good.
Actually Ozzy I've played several of the FF games (4,5,6,7), and only used 8 as an example because it was the most recent one therefore giving your limited cranial capacity every chance of recalling which one it was amongst the mish-mash that is the entire series...
UO would maybe sell less than FF because it actually requires *shock* a commitment on behalf of the gamer! Imagine that, actually having to put more effort into a game than left,left, up, right, square, triangle, X, up, up, R1, up. :laugh:

Yes it does, vastly stronger. And it deals with weightier issues as well. FF is no comparison to one of the greatest RPGs of all time. FF ain't even technically an RPG anymore because it's way too linear. There's no room for divergence from the main plotline in FF, yet there's hundreds of little side plots and stories in BG2.

Sorry chaps but I agree on some points with Ozma. The final Fantasy series is better than many of the PC RPGS available including BG2 and also Diablo 2.
I have no reason to say this if it was not what I truly felt. I am currently replaying FF7 because I enjoyed it that much. Any game that is story driven is almost bound to be fairly linear but having said that I have just made a decision in FF7 to not help somebody that I could have done so that sort of stops it from being linear.
BG2 is good and I enjoyed Diablo 2 but I did not find them any where near as good as FF7.
Consoles are better than pcs in the respect that once you own it you dont have to worry about whether the games will run in two years time. I have just had to spend nearly £300 to make my pc run a couple of the latest games. The same cost of a ps2. I wont be upgrading again.
''15 mates on a server''. Listen you have your mates a deathmatch on the PC, while I take 15 mates and have a social life away from a bloody screen. Lets just leave it at that. I really am not jealous of you. You are sad.

I recall it came to the PC 8 months later with loads of bugs and slowdown, published by Eidos for gods sake.Didn't sell at all well because everyone already had the PSX version that you could just pick up and play without any hassle.

Oh look, B&W is the second most pre-ordered game.....ahead of FF 26.......oh look, B&W is being converted to all the consoles,it`s designed to be played with the mouse (1 hand needed)so how well will it play on a joypad:)

Ozm@ i used to be an avid console gamer - i loved x-com nme unknown on the PSX, wasnt a big fan of ff7, and yes loved goldeneye. In fact it was goldeneye that made me want a PC for there are loads more FPShooters on PC. I dont have a console at all now, and cant see that changing. The PC/home computer will, and always has been the platform for innovation in gaming. Name any well known Console game and ill show you thats its roots lie in a PC/home computer game.('Chu Chu Rocket' doesnt count! :E)
I agree consoles have their moments - but for a social device? Id much rather go down the pub with my m8s or out to a club.
I dont play PC/console games for social reasons - its purely selfish, i love to imerse myself in a game world - in my opinion PC games do that far better than most console games, with a few exceptions.
Just what do you think all these 'all-powerful-and-simply-superior' console games are created on in the first place?

Ive got to admit it does make me laugh that people have a go at this bloke and then stoop to the same depths. Come on people leave it be. There is a valid place for both pc and console.
I actually think that the ps2 joypad might be as good for controlling b&w as a mouse although the gesture recognition may prove tricky we shall see.
As for pcs well they are crap for sports sims. Also I dont think there has ever been a game like Crash Bash or mario Party on the pc. Well not that I know of.
As for consoles they are not as good for multiplayer or FPS. Although I do love timesplitter but it is no counter strike.
I think the pc industry is in a bit of a mess in genreal and needs to reinvent itself. Hence the X-box. No matter what anyone says to get the best gaming on the pc on average you will need to spend probably at leat £100 a year where as a console probably averages about £50 a year.
Ozm@ people are allowed an opinion. It is much better to argue your corner with a resoned opinion such as FF7 is a great game because...
Dont forget games are all about opinion what I like others dont.

The plot in FF7 was by no means shallow. In fact it is nice to play a game that has some story to it. The characters develop throughout the game but are fairly wooden although some of this may be due to translation. Yes the battles are fairly random but the outcome has nothig to do with luck. It has to do with knowing what enemies are effected by what attacks and knowing which characters are best for what job.
I agree it may not be the best game of all time but it is easily comparable to BG2 and Diablo 2 which in my opinion had very little plot whatsoever.
I dont think any RPG could be said to be the best game ever. I think that award probably goes to Half-Life and all its mods.

When my 386 25sx was a top of the range PC, my Mega Drive had some very good games, like Road Rash and Sonic. Consoles with games like those killed the home computer market. I would (and have <g>) said it was slightly before 3Dfx cards which came out after Quake 1. Up till then the PC was the game machine, with no contenders, well until the N64 and Play Station, which sold by the bucket load. But unlike before, the increased sales of consoles didn’t destroy the home computer market. I have 2 theories for this, the first being this was the start of the mass media focus on the internets and everyone was trying to get online, and the second the 3dfx card which elevated PC graphics higher than the consoles at the time, which is what you’ve said. But it was a neck and neck race, and still is, as the consoles are cheaper to buy.
My main fears for the PC platform are the developers who are flocking to the console market, as it’s easier to sell glossy games there and we need them for the quality PC games. It’s my opinion that computers have always survived because of their games requiring some intelligent play to win, and that appeals to a certain market, which isn’t what a console owner looks for in a game.
PC games are very different from Console games. The Harddrive alone gives the developers alot of freedom. On the play station it took a whole cartridge to save a game for enermy unknown. Thats just one example, internet game updated, mouse and keyboard (Almost no-one got the playstion mouse, so almost no game supported it, even those that should.) So I'm staying with my PC they make game for it That I want to play.

Yes, but my comments do not mean that consoles don't have a place of value, or that they don’t produce the best games for their capture market. If PC's are to chess and consoles are to football, I believe that you’ll see a U curve as to which game people would rather be playing most often. With that sort of comparison it’s easier to understand why console owners do not like PC games and vice versa as both football and chess are good real life games.

Just because you've got mail notification on isn't justification for closing a thread. Should this also apply to all threads you've made a reply to once you've lost interest in them?
Switch the option off in your profile, then switch it on in those threads you're interested in when you're making your reply (look at the checkbox just above Show Signature, it's to send you your notifications).

Ozm@ cut the abuse. Wireplay is a comunity and when someone such as yourselve starts insulting long time members it upsets alot of people. My advise to Ozm@ is keep it shut and only give out useful coments or take part in disscussions like a grown boy instead of trying to start a flame war.
Hopefully u will stop the senseless abuse NOW and maybe earn some respect.

I hope I don't fuel another arguement Sar, but I must tell you my feelings on the whole Final Fantasy fiasco.
When Final Fantasy 7 first came out, I had never played an RPG before. However, Watching the plot unfold in Tifa's bar kept me up until 2 in the morning. The storylines in 7, 8 and 9 are completly different from each other. 7 stars a mercenary who doesnt really care about the safety of the planet at first but soon comes to his senses. 8 (the weakest of the three) features a moody military graduate who thinks too much and doesnt speak enough. 9 has the completly different sort with a 16 year old theif who always looks on the bright side and a beutiful princess who is pretty strong.
The games are linear sometimes, but it can't be all non-linear otherwise you'd be walking around aimlessly all the time. There are plenty of sub-games and sub-quests. The Gold Saucer and Chocobo Racing in 7, Triple Traid in 8, and mognet central and treasure hunting in 9.
The music is simpley amazing, I have a playlist on Napster with lots of tunes from the games. Beatrix's music from 9 is on right now. You can't say the game lacks depth, they all start with either a simple training or kidnapping exercise (Yes, it's not only DK that you have to do bad things. Though the princess wants to escape from the castle anyway.) And by the final boss, you're saving not just the world, but often existance all together. This all unfolds over 3 or 4 discs.
So it's not just 'good for a console' (seen the FMVs? Better looking than B&W) They are probably the best games of this time. Ozma was an idiot, but he was right, it is these games, not UO (only people who have 6 hours spare a day will enjoy this, I know, I've played it.) not Baldurs Gate, but Final Fantasy, that will be remembered for a long, long time.

Think I'm going to be neutral, the reason - because i think it might be hardest to play and keep to it rather than being a tree hugging goody two shoes or an sick evil demented ammoral sadist, which lets be honest will definately be the easiest to roleplay :)

I have looked back and my argument brings a lot of new points up. I would say "Let our Titans settle this," but yours will probably mega blast mine before it stops gazing lovingly at Princess Dagger. As for the rest of this argument, look at my signature.
Right, since everyone is on this thread, think I'll chuck my 2p's worth in.
1) Consoles vs PCs - it basically comes down to game design far more than platform or graphics, obviously - played many great games on both. Much prefer FPS on PCs, owing to mouse control. System Shock 2 and MUD still my faves though.
2) FF7 - great game, plot had some decent twists by RPG standards, bad guy was cool as hell. <i also managed to kill Emerald Weapon without the Underwater Materia - pulled off the rarest attack in the game - Cait Sith's Game Over Limit Break - on him - anyone else managed this?> Even if the dialogue was worse than 'The Mysterious Cities of Gold' (remember that?) .
FF8 - I'm not even going to talk about how much I hated where that plot went. FF9 - haven't played it yet.

Anyway back on topic, it is going to be v. difficult to actually be extremely good or bad (unless you are like that anyway), as the game has been designed so as it resembles your own personality, as although I'll definetely be throwing the odd villager in the sea, I don't think I could do that all the time.
It's like when some ppl previewed the game they tried to be uber nasty but eventually couldn't and although their Eden was slightly darker than someone playing without any particualr method in mind, it still was pretty neutral.
Anyways none of what I said has any basis on the actual game seeing as it still aint bloody out yet.
P.S If anyone knows of where I could get a list of names of EA staff, and the ability to teach my titan to throw things really hard against brick walls i'd be grateful ;)
I think the Titan can be good, but the god\player can be evil.
I expect i'll be fairly evil with a good titan. But i've never played the game before, who knows what'll happen...
