Getting a bit cheesed off with my NTL problems, but even more cheesed off 'cos the tech support don't seem to want to do anything, or even make any constructive suggestions as to how I can help myself.
I've got loads of tracert outputs showing ping spikes of say 200 ms in various hops within the NTL domain, up to and including the linx router. So it looks to me like some problem in the network somewhere.
But...People living within a few miles of me do have occasional NTL problems, whereas I have occasional periods of it working smoothly. Thus if my continual problems are down to the network, then it seems to be very localised network problem.
Ideally I need to be able to do some diagnostics to narrow down the possibilities:
1. Maybe it's something to do with my PC, or the way it is set up.
2. Maybe the CM itself is dodgy (it's a 3Com CMX btw).
3. Maybe the cable to the wall socket is dodgy.
4. Maybe the extension from the main outlet on my outside wall to the wall socket in my PC room is dodgy.
5. etc. etc. etc. all the way back through various bits of cable and routers...
Any sort of diagnostics you could suggest so that I can get some handle on where the problem is would be very useful to me.
I'm about 1 month away from junking it and trying to sign up for ADSL :(
