Right, I'm looking at the possibility of buying a car next year or getting a motorbike sooner,

thing is I've heard that the minimum age for learning to drive will go up to 18 is this true? and if it is true when is it going to come into affect? I've looked everywhere and I can't find any information on it.....

Also, how much do you lot pay for insurance?
I'm looking to get something like a 1.4 renault 19 or a 1.1 renault 5, is there any pocket rockets that I could afford to insure, and how much do you reckon it would cost for those 2 cars? I would be :E 17, bloke, living down in cornwall so not in the city third party?

Thx very much for your time, I appreciate ANY replies in advance :)

Well, I've found out there is no plans for them to raise the age limit and I got some quotes for insurance from directline.com

Mini 850 £1100
Renault 5 £1400
Renault 19 £1600

Damn, I'm gonna need to start saving NOW !!!!

Insurance is disgusting - simple as that

When I bought a new Lotus Elise in February 1997 it cost me just under £800 with Norwich union and thats fully comprehensive gold with protected no-claims bonus.

Today, almost four years later the same car would costs me almost £1600. Thats a 100% increase in four years ffs

I mean what have I done wrong? I havn't had any accidents/claims, I havn't moved, In actual fact I'm four years more experienced so why penailise me?

I really feel very sad for young peeps today. Of the first things you wanna do as a teenager is learn to drive asap and have your freedom but it's getting more and more expensicve every year in every respect and I can see the day when there's no under 21's on the roads at all simply because they can't afford it :(

Yeah it's an arse,

I'm gonna try and get insured under my mums name as the insurance comes down to around £300 to £500,

this is coz at the moment I'm planning to go to university and since I definatly won't be able to afford a car then + you can't keep a car on campus with most uni's, I'm only gonna have a car for 2 years, then the next time a get a car hopefully I'll be a graduate earnin' loads'a money :) (hopefully)
