I have been asked to produce a website for someone and they said they would pay for it (professional) the one thing im having problems with is how much I should charge them... Its a full design with about 15 pages with a load of scripts etc. I dont really want to go any charge £1500 any ideas?

The way I would do it is to stipulate charges for various areas of the design process. Eg 200squid for the template 30squid for each page 500squid for a ecom back end yada yada yada. It depends on how much time you put into the project... and how good you consider yourself to be :smokin: hope that helps.

Depends who you are making it for. If i was making one for a small business I would charge less (depending on the size of the site), compared to a large company.

If they want 5 different pages with different layouts then its going to cost more than doign the same layout for each page. Also, try not to make it too easy to update so they ask you to come back when they need something adding ;)

Web design companies that charge per page are imo taking the piss - all you have to do is design one page then copy and paste the HTMl but change the middle bit...

I got payed to make a website once by the hour - worked out very nicely (I was teaching him bits and bobs of HTML at the same time). I reckon if you want to make real money (and offer your customers a great service as well) you should look into giving them a site they can update themselves - i.e a database back end and admin tools. You can charge more (after all it's more work) but the customer gets a truly excellent service - you cen bet they'll tell other people about it as well.

150 quid / hour for proj management
150 quid / hour for high level (ecom / XSL stuff) development
120 quid / hour for design
100 quid / hour for low level (HTML / CSS / most asp) development

and designing these sites - would the person who it is for be sitting next to you or would he/she be far away somewhere?

cuz i've only designed and created websites for people i have met on the net.
