Q3, WP and 1.27g

When I had a modem and 1.17, I could get into any WP server with no problems.

When I finally got ADSL just last week, I had to upgrade to 1.27g, which I did.

I can't log into ANY WP servers because:

a) it asks for the cd key
b) 1.27h doesn't ask for the cd key, but I still can't connect
c) it doesn't download any mods or maps
d) when I \reconnect, I'm actually in a WP server for 2-4 seconds and then I find I'm in the Q3 front end screen
e) \reconnect loops the d) process again and again

Since I can get into any other servers except WP, it must be the WP Client affecting my Q3 installation of 1.27g.

I have asked a few GamePros on the forums, but they haven't come across the problem and suggested a few things, all of them fruitless. I have asked a Clan for help on this issue and have gone a few steps further, but still... 1.27g and my WP Client won't let me into a Server with my ADSL connection.

The ADSL connection works fine everywhere else and it gives an incredibly rock steady ping of 30-50 no matter how many are present in the game. So it's not my connection.

Is there some configuration I should be using?
Has anyone had this problem before?
Can anyone help?
I'm so new on WP I haven't actually been on it except for a modem connection which always dropped out in RA or simply locked up anywhere else.

Only the servers that can be upgraded have been.

When the server is selected in the left hand window (in Wireplay 3) it will list the version of Q3 being used on that server (in the right hand window).

There are some issues with mods and 1.27g atm which hopefully be sorted out soon but in the mean time take a look at this FAQ which should sort out most

I couldn't get on a Server with 1.17, so I guessed it was the release of 1.27g.

Since I will never know if 1.17 and ADSL works, and that 1.27g is the problem, it makes sense that anything I connect to outside of the WP Client causes this unusual problem.

I've downloaded the WP2.2 Client, so I will see if this fixes the problem.

I'm convinced that it is not my installation, as I have removed it completely and with the latest regcleaner removed any registry entries related to it.

Still, the problem is there. But not locally, not when using the internet to access the inbuilt arena listings. Only with the WP3 Client.

I'm at work at the moment, will head home soon. I've looked at the FAQ - it doesn't help or give any hints that I don't already know.

I'm kind of desparate at the moment as I'm keen on this Clan and joining, and the only thing I have is ADSL and WP, and they don't bloody work. I don't know much else and what I have been prompted to do, I can't figure out. All in all, I'm suffering a nightmare of biblical proportions.

Did I mention that Quake2 3.20 works fine with the WP3 Client? Well, it does.

WP 2.3 works with Quake3.
50-60 ping, but I am one happy son of a bitch I can tell you.

So WP 3.0 is the problem with 1.27g, yet works with Quake2.
Now figure that one! When I connect to Quake2 with WP 3.0, I get easily a 30 ping.

Something up with the Q3 Servers. Better look into it guys.

Also, I mentioned it on the Instagib Server, and I got a rate setting for ADSL of 8000, whereas, I normally use 12500.

So what's the best to use in all circumstances?

I use "r2" of WP3.
Is there a problem with this and 1.27g/h?

This occurs during the connection process, then the connection fails to the game server [using WP3.0 / 1.27g/h]

What the hell was wrong with it anyway.

On a higher note [screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech] I can log into RA3 using [.14]. But a 60 ping with a 61.9Kb/sec download? Anywhere I go? Anywhere I go but WP, and I can experience a 30-40 ping and it fekkin rocks.

Still, nothing else works on the WP client except RA314.

All this fiddling around with uninstalling and installing and making sure of this and that is not fixing the problem - it's just fixing ffs 1.27's lousy coding.

Indeed, it's a bit of a shoddy patch to be honest. Well it must be shoddy if the patch needs a patch of its own (1.27h is a beta patch for the 1,27g patch ffs! :eek: ), and breaks all mod capability and requires mod makes to produce new versions of their mods, and requires users to uninstall and reinstall ALL their mods!

We kept it on 1.17 as long as we possibly could but there were loads of people moaning about why we hadn't upgraded and Amok gave in to em.
I hope they're happy now.

now WP3 works fine as well
I just got all the patches and applied them
why the hell no one mentioned WHICH patches, I don't know and they sure aren't exactly easy to find - FILE MONSTER, well yeah, but I thought this was some kind of boogie man on Windows 98

1.27's physics are dodgy - on DM17, how many fekkin times I went PAST the RG platform, I don't know, before I figured it required me to STALL back in the air before I went off the edge thinking I was speed strafing all the frikkin time
because you will if you just leave it to bounce you there - and I like to do this just to pan back and check out the scenery

1.17. If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I quite agree, as do most of us, that we should have stuck to 1.17 as there was nothing wrong with it, but we had to give in to the moaners who wanted 1.27 I'm afraid. :rolleyes:
