plz help i just upgraded my modo to a asus a7v using kt133 via chip set. now when i connect to the net with adsl after about 15 minutes my adsl modem shuts down and my usb ports stop working ive rung my isp and they got no faults n there network and i am synching with my exchange when i boot my pc no prob
i still show that im connected even though both lights on my modem are off if i unplugg then replug in my modem it doesnt detect it but if i reboot windows it comes on again till i connrct then after 15 mins or so it again shuts off i am thinking it is maybe a power problem to my usb ports..
usb is enabled in my bios iv updated the via 4-in-1 drivers for my mobo and am running a 330watt psu running a athlon 1ghz
if i check the power properties for the usb root hub in device manager it shows it has 500ma pf power available for the usb port bbut the modem requires 500ma of power to run..
ne help will be gratefully appreciated
ta in advance :-)

As I'm going to upgrade next week myself to an AMD 1.2 gig so I'm anxious to see if there is a resolution to this issue.
Enigma m8 , I know a few peeps who had some similar problems (not sure on processor type or mobo type ) but they kept dropping when on-line.
They flashed their Bios with a new version and that seemed to do the trick - he had an AMD
Dunno whether that helps ?

I was talking to ClaraNet over the weekend and I mentioned your problem(I was having a connection problem, it only connected for a couple of seconds then stopped, they could find no problem but it seemed to fix itself - sorry rambling).
They said that any Athelon running less than a 300 watt power supply will have these kind of problems as the processor takes up all of the power, you probably know this anyway and your supply is ok - but I just thought Id tell u anyway :)
Isn't this more likely a result of Via's poor USB support, as I have a USB ISDN TA which causes this exact same problem when I channel bond to 128k but I have no problems 64k or with my PCI TA.
I am using a USB Hub and have a 430w PSU so thats why I think it's the Via USB problem.

I had this problem, but I'd seen it before, so it was fixed in a short time
Primarily it's the power supply, you must have a reliable/250-300 watt PSU - but it depends on the Athlon CPU you have, certainly anything above 700Mhz
BIOS needs to be non-buggy when it comes to USB - get the latest fix - the ASUS A7V KT133 currently likes BIOS version 1005D very much
Lastly, for Windows 98se, make sure you have at least VIA4in1 4.26 [I use 4.28]
This is overkill, but get yourself a power master socket extension that protects against "spikes" and power surges
you'll never get a adsl/USB problem again
at least, not until Microsoft release their next O/S
