Hi all.

I have ADSL at home, the modem is a 3com 812 router, the problem i have is that every ten or 15 minutes the modem stops, the ADSL lights all remain ion, but any transfers in progress just stop, if I am playing a game I get disconnected saying pings not being returned (allegiance)

As the modem lights all report OK am I right in thiinking the problem is with the exchange/ISP and their connection, and that my connection is still ok but the exchange onwards has a problem, or is it a problem at my end.

Also, I have opened the ports from 80 to 8000, all prgrams work, except ICQ which I have told I am behind a router but still wont work, although microsoft messenger works and Napster works and Human click also works, do I need to open the ports thurther, from 40 to 8000 say, or is it something else.

All help greatfully recieved.

cheers

Hi,

Have you ever looked at the (usually minimised) dial-up-networking connection icon (the 2 little flashing PC's) in your system tray when the problem happens ?

If you notice that the "connected time" resets itself (back to 0 then starts again until the next time it happens) then i'd be really interested to hear back from you.

Cheers

hmm, don't know, as its ADSl and im on win 98 ME the icon doesn't show itself as standard on the desktop, as its not on a dial up, but over a LAN:

I have a 3com network card, connected to a hub, that is connected to the 3 com router, so I wont be able to get the icon you mention.

If it was an internal card it might be possible, but what your asking is to have a connection time showing for my lan connection..

Sorry if I should have mentioned that fact earlier..

Does the BT provided router work?

(I assume you've bought your own 3Com one)
