my point entirely
both myself and my clan mate mr muttley, had pings of 1400-1500 when on halflife tonight using btfree, also even and isdner had 1400 pings
maybe its because bts servers are chugged up with users but then that doesnt explain the fact that im getting 3-4k download rates (which is good for my modem on btfree, especially at this time)
shambles
any how, i have e-mailed bt on the subject
and i'll see what they say about it
probably another technical fault or something, although i wouldnt be at all surprised if the real motive behind the high pings are to make people have to play on ISPs which charge local rate, and therefore mean that bt make money from it

Beware the PAR site (http://www.par.org.uk)
The 0800 number is not Gameplay's problem.
It's not just Wireplay thats bad with it, I've tried Half-Life on fast net servers and get a worse ping.
If you want good performance then I suggest paying for a Wireplay Direct call.
im paying for a direct call on BT and my ping just topped 2000 on TFC and has been doing so randomly all week WHY?
I'd like to confirm I could not play AA this evening on EITHER BTFree or WPDirect due to ridiculous amounts of lag.

This may all be related to the fact that the data network that the telecoms systems use is simply overloaded as not many people realised just how popular the internet wa going to become. I read somewhere recently that major upgrades are taking place very soon. Hopefully this should help. This could be all complete and utter c.rap of course http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/teeth.gif

If Bt can't cope with the overwhelming demand on there 0800 service;
Why are they still accepting requests to join?
Why don't they suspend people from joining till the problem has been solved....
Maybe by the the time they start to accept requests Wireplay will be open to all ISps and everyone else will have joined free ISps like Callnet....
And I will be left alone with the whole system all to my self...
Mwhahahahahahahahahaha.....
LOL
I am caceling my BTi account on monday
i signed up when BTineternet was first launched, they have lost a customer

BT free is not geared towards gaming ,and until they understand that it'll bve the same. Sorry about that.

Yes but uprising they clearly advertise it as the way to get on wireplay for free.
"it allows you full access to wireplay" blah blah....anyway im gonna dump it soon...

I've just E'd BTI
All afternoo I've had a ping of near 1000
Thought I would try WP direct, and what do you think...... a ping of 200.
I know they (BTI) say that within weeks that the servers will be upgraded, but that could mean anything, maybe for Easter !
We all know its not WP's fault but we all had to have a BT isp to start with to use it,
so they should be kicking up $hit on our behalf
Its 's now getting beyond a joke

AYE ****IN RIGHT!!! you guys havent played jedi knight recently, its laggyier than that. here ur complaining bout ur 1000ms pings and we get utterly MASSIVE ones, i got plenty of pictures of games that have been laggy. playing 1 v 1 aint nice sometimes, and as soon as u have 4players its lag city.
we're all waiting and hopin for WP3 to fix the prob but if not most of us are gonna leave or something. i mean ffs the zone has better lag then this. oh and most of us arent using btfree.

Lets just say a BT free ping is like being drunk!
And yeah By the time BT free make it 10% quicker we will have WP3 and u can connect with whatever u want!
These pings are atrocious, fair enough, they normally are around 300-400, but 1000+? Totally unplayable. I know WP cant do a damn thing, but are WP going to open up the power play servers to the whole net, and if they are, how soon? Cos if that happens, you can bet im going straight to claranet.
Just a thought, but has the pipe from BTI to WP been chewed on by rodents or something? http://forums.gameplay.com/ubb/shades.gif
There must have been something wrong - I went on BT Free at midnight on Friday, and pings everywhere (WP, 'Net') were 1200+.
Normally about 70-100 at that time of the weekend (on ISDN btw). Anyway, by about 1-2am, pings had settled down and were back to 60-80, which was pretty good, good enough to play RA2 on BW for about 3 hours :)
Too many people I guess, and yeah, will be better once we can access WP thru claranet etc, but you might find performance there will suffer too, if everyone signs up with them :/

Its not just BT Free - I was on WP Direct and had pings of 700+ on Friday, and 1000+ last night. I might as well switch to BT Free... :) :(

I used to use BTfree but got fed up with the high pings - what's the point in playing if you can't enjoy it?
I now use WPdirect and have it as my best friend on Friends and Family.
I've worked out that for WPdirect to cost the same as BTfree (£12 a month) then I need to play for 6 hours in total every weekend . I rarely play that much (and I don't really get the chance to play during the week) so by switching to WPdirect I'm saving money and getting much better pings.
BTW, I found the general service from BTInternet to be pants - difficulty connecting, poor download rates etc. Don't know how they've got the nerve to charge for the service. Most free ISPs are miles better.
Isn't it odd that the biggest telco in the country can't even run a decent internet service?
