Those are the basics anyway - single smilie posts, conversations with self/sentances spanning multiple posts... Any post that, on reflection, seems totally unjustified.

E.g. - I did a single smilie back there. Thats spam of the lamest kind. I then followed it by the second most lame form of spam, segmented sentance posting...

An example that shows how vague the area between legitimate response and spam is...

Did Denham really have to post that? It wasn't his question I answered... but at the same time he was complimenting another member's efforts to render assistance...

without being too contreversial you can normally spot a spammer because theyre utter muppets, I tend to read the forums quite late at night / early morning, so when I leave the forum I might leave up to 8 threads with my name at the end, during the day time they normally get replied to and it gets broken up, at night though its different. Any more than 10 though is getting on the stupid, especially if all they contain is "/me does something" posts, smilies or one word comments, high usage is accepted, doing what grump just did isnt, although i'll let him off....just this once for it was demo.

No more though please, you dont need visual aids. :)
