CM vs ADSL

anyway..

Both services have there good and bad points, and both go through good and bad periods.

In theory ADSL is more future prove, whatever that means in IT/communications - i've never been convinced by that though for the simple reason that things move so quickly and new gormats appear all the time....

As for which is best, most people only ever get to experience one, if your lucky enough to have both cable and adsl avaliable then get in touch with both companies and see what they offer you in way of serivce and support. It may be that cable is cheaper, or you get a higher upstream with ADSL.

I have cable with NTL at the moment, and if I had a choice I would still chose cable, despite the problems around at the moment, for the simple reason that I have little faith in BT. But I guarntee that a ADSL user will come and say the opposite ;)

I always thought cable was more future proof cos fibre-optic has the potential for much higher bandwidth (did I read 10MB connections were possible?), but DSL uses the crappy old copper phone line (doesn't it?) which is much more limiting.

As you can see, I don't really know what I'm on about, but I think that's what I've picked up reading various threads :)

I'm on ADSL but think that cable is probably better. Cheaper, more reliable etc.

xDSL can go up to speeds of 51Mb but only up to 500M from the exchange. Cable can go up to 30Mb.

im leaning towards CM, as is cheaper and all in, and cheaper install fee...

only thing, I know some ppl who have horendous probs with it... why is this?

is it dependent on where u live, or caN u just be unlucky?

I've heard that Telewest isn't very good but NTL is.

Telewest was pretty dodgy up until a couple of weeks ago when they did a fairly major upgrade to the network. Now things seem pretty damn good from what I can tell. But it does seem that some cable customers just have crappy connections.....but then again lots of people have problems with dialup....like me.....which is why I'm getting cable :)

join a server wiv 17 peeps in it, still get a 30 - 50 ping :D
