12 on an NTL cable modem when pinging the Europa Ultima Online server (and it was still lagged to Fell and back)
I regularly get pings under 50 on UT servers. I've using BT Openworld.
SUBJECT: overkill information
Quake3 servers other than WP [I hope I don't get disbanded here], about 24-36 ping. I've never seen it go beyond this, even with a loaded server [Demon in particular and Aardvark]
Quake3 WP - about 50
Quake2 on WP - 30 ping
Pinging wwww.gameplay.com gives a low of 24 to a high of 56
You know, if WP got rid of these bloody forums altogether, I'd confidently say that pings across all game servers, would inevitably improve...
I use BT Openworld with the an ADSL modem, that would only make a girl smile, and me wretch.
I also remember the BT Engineer saying that I had the best "db" level of any ADSL connection he'd seen, which was "11db". He said mostly, everyone gets about 20, but I live in a brand new house with new wiring [it had NTL to it originally]
<yawn>
I think it's the "noise" on the line from my socket to the adsl exchange; "db"
tbh, I'm not 100% sure. I did ask about it because I was watching the BTEng. do his stuff and I mentioned it when he was "whooshing" the line. He said it's an excellent signal and everything's fine. Adsl is yours.
:)
I could've kissed him, but I'm strictly AC/DC
for some reason "db" means something to me and I can't for the hell of it remember what it was
got it
it'something to do with dolby, like on cassette decks. the more you put +db or -db, the richer the sound was
too much would distort the sound depending on what output you used and too little deadened it
oh feck. what a lame explanation
:(
right, I'm going to phone a BT Engineer about it
Digital Bandwidth?
Dead Brilliant?
Definately Bustin'?
dB (decibel)
A measure of voltage, current, or power gain equal to l/10 of a Bel. Given by the equations 20 log Vout/Vin, 20 log Iout/In, or 10 log Pout/Pin.
See http://www.telect.com/corporat/glossary/index.cfm
decibel or decibels, a mesurement of sound waves at a certain frequency
the receptionist told me at work [she's kinda bright actually]
*cough*
hehe - I knew along though
*cough*
hahaha
*cough*bulsht
erk. BT Engineers - what do they know anyway
peteski,
yeah, I knew all of that
*cough*morebulsht
Ask your receptionist how many dbs in a bel? That should shut her up.
or, I could ask her how may C's were in her "cup" because I couldn't keep my eyes of them
but she's dead smart with a degree in something and I didn't want to get my ears whacked and experience, instead of know, what a decibel felt like

Best Ive had was 18, best constant 20-30, normal average 40-60
Best ever 1, base steady 14-16, usual 25-35. Less than 20 only happens on Blueyonder's own Q3 servers :)
