I have a Blueyonder Cable modem and 2 Pcs. Both computers are conneted to a HUB and the cable modem is plugged into the uplink port on the hub. When the engineer installed the modem he didnt do it throught the hub but the PC that it was installed to workes with it in the uplink port......and i cant get the other pc to work with the modem. The pc that wokrs is WIN98 and the one that wont work is win95. Any help on settings and the like would be much appreciated.

hi
I'm afraid most cable modems will not allow you to plug them straight into a standard hub in order to allow 2 or more machines share the connection:(
So you basically have 2 choices.
1: the modem needs to be plugged into the same network card it was origianlly connected to, then you would need another card for your lan (about £10-20 for a decent one).
Then install Internet Connection Sharing on the machine with 2 NIC's to share the connection with the other PC (connect the HUB to the 2nd NIC).
2: Or you need a proper router with built in hub (about £150+) to share the connection.
If 1 cost is about £15-25 for a 2nd network card + cable, and then about 20 minutes setting up ICS.
If 2, cost is about £150+, and you just replace your hub from what i have heard.
I use method 1 to share my NTL cable modem with 3 PC's.

Ok i have 2 network cards in the computer with cable modem, one talking to the modem, one talking to the hub. I installed ICS through add/remove programs, windows setup. The computer with the modem is all setup as a gateway but the other pc aint doing nothing. Iv tryed setting various gateway addresses, playing about randomly with stuff but still no luck. So can someone please tell me what settings to have both machines at coz this is sending me mad(der).
Thanks to whoever ends this nightmare :)

Lo m8 :) I feel your pain, ICS is very buggy at the best!!
Some things to double check:
1 - ICS on the cable machine is set up using the network card connected to the modem as connex to internet. This is well worth double checking and is worth having a look at the network cards if only the chipset is quoted on yer puter (eg, Realtek, kingston etc). If you get these the wrong way round, then it's probably best to uninstall ICS and then reinstall it :(
2 - Make sure you are using DHCP on your machines, ICS seems to work best like this
3 - That the Neywork login is set to "Client for microsoft networks" and not family logon etc
I never use gateways when using ICS, so can't advise you there. And as ICS is very buggy, if you think that it should be working as all the protocols are there (you should see some extra entries in your network config like TCP [home], TCP [shared]), then uninstall all, reboot and then reinstall. Pain in the anus, but when it works, it works quite well :)
Good luck m8, I've also got a link to a really good walkthrough guide that helps loads that I wil try and find...
