I am on BY Cable and I have a web server but since cable was installed, the outside world cannot access this server. I have a Linksys router and have forwarded the port number to my computer but I still cannot access it.
Has enbody got neideas??
Not sure if any one can access it TBH as the connection won't allow anyone to connect to it which is done by BY. So no hosting game servers either :(
Then again I'm no Cable modem expert ;)

BY uses dynamic IP adressing, so everytime your on the IP will change. However, many have reported that the IP only changes rarely and stays the same fo long periods of time. So going via "winipcfg" program (start>run), you can fing out the current IP address and use that for things like netmeeting etc, should work with a game server, if your mates type in that IP address, but you run the risk of getting disconnected. In theory, this should work and if you can find out the various IPs you get assigned by BY, then your mates can just try them all till they find you.
Don't know how much of this is true  but my ISP assigns IP dynamically and this is how I run netmeeting etc, just get all yer m8s on yahoo messenger, get the IP address, tell them it, set up server. For the case of Half Life, click "add server" and type in that IP address.
Food for thought?

Well i know for a fact that the IP does not change when you're online, it only changes when u log onto your computer and in most cases u get the same IP back.
I'm not trying to host a game server a web server, ie JRUN.
Neway thanks for the replies.

Blueyonders terms and conditions state that if you run an FTP or game server it's password protected to stop anyone and everyone accessing it limiting it to just the people you tell, I'd presume this would apply to the web server aswell which I doubt you want.
Have you tried it without the Linksys box in the loop to see if its that, otherwise BY don't do port blocking of any kind and like the others say the ip rarely changes, mines the same since having it installed late December.
