Hi there,

Just got cable and wanted some countrywide performance comparisons...

Gaming Pings, Napster d/l speeds, rates of transfers etc would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Padstar. :)

Pings.. 25-35 drops lower at times

d-l as fast as it can give me, 74k occasionally at 3am

Start of the download is really high as well before the cap kicks in

It's not the cap, it is because of Internet Explore reporting the speed wrong. When you request the download the information gets cached, so it thinks it has downloaded more than it actually has.

Blueyonder - Birmingam

Quakeworld ping = 28

With Mass Downloader I tend to get 55-65k's.

Anyone else find Napster is a bit of a joke.

Does not matter if I am downloading or uploading, half the time they end up as transfer errors :/

Blueyonder - Kent (narrows it down :naughty: )
Pings of 20-30'ish in UT
Using Download Accelerator get about 55-65k/sec if I have a lot on the go.
Napsters fine here, most I've had in a single download was 38k/sec off a T3, maybe people are cutting you off X Cell :)
Using pipex cache btw.

Birmingam = Birmingham BTW ;)

Im sure some are cutting me off but when they are uploading from me, loads for people get transfer errors aswell and I'm not cutting them off.

There again I am sharing over 1800 files and have an average of 8 people uploading from me at once! :/ Maybe thats the reason. heh

I have blueyonder cable modem an i live in kirkcalcy (in scottland). I get pings of 20-40ish. Download speeds are usally bettween 45-60k/s (same on napster).
Pr1mal, your modem cant get over 65k/s, its just not possible, the download window is just wrong for the first few seconds (for the reason richard said and because of the way IP works).
Happy cableing all

NTL in glasgow

HTTP downloads would average at about 60 - 70k/sec, when its not the download is either ridiculously slow or just times out (this happens fairly often).

Pings - absolute maximum low of around 38, average 40 - 43

Napster - when dloading from a good T3 or T1 connection 70k/sec. from cable/DSL - 40 - 50k/sec.

Uploads - average of around 10 - 15k/sec it varies quite often.
