Just out of interest does anyone know who can provide a T1 connection and how much does it cost? (installation and rental)
Many Thanks

Isn't one thread enough? :)
a T1 is far to expensive for you...so forget that idea.
Goose how do you know that?
It would be hideously expensive especially since you'd have to have it cable layed across the atlantic...
Now an E1 would just be very expensive (They have to dig up the pavement normally, unless its delivered over HDSL). Any of the large telecos can sell you an E1.

aint that a T3 line your talking about their m8?
incase ya confused:
T1 = 1.5mbps - used by companies that need a permanent connection
T3 = 45mbps - transatlantic
i think and hope thats right. :E
what he means is the T lines are an american standard.
Where as in europe we use E.
Why is a T1 so stupidly expensive? You can get business ADSL for much cheaper cant you? And the same or great bandwidth... I thought T1 was faster than that... oh well :E

It's because there is no contention ratio, where ADSL has either a 50:1 or 20:1.

Also don't forget that ADSL is limited on the upstream to 256k whereas permanent connections like E1, T1 etc are the same up as down.

Don't quote me but an E1 would be at least £1000/month before tax and thats probably a conservative estimate. They would probably charge more if you were't an established business.

Man, your all confused.
Why'd you want a T1 anyway? just get a cable modem with a 2Mbs connection.
If you've got the cash, bribe Supert Janet and use her vBNS backbone thing. With 155Mbs you can't go wrong.
P.S. anyone know who 'Super' Janet is? She must be a real rich bich.......man, I want her number!

First of all cable modems are only avaliable up to 512Kb/s.
Also do you know what a JANET network is?

Check out BY/NTL's services for business...I'm sure the last time I looked...they had 2Mb/s connections.
In any case with all the fuss about BY upgrading their network...won't be long before their offering 1Mb/s connections to home users.
In theory a 1Mb conn is better value for money then a 2Mb connection. As 2Mb/s connections never reach their full potential anyway.
P.S. don't get smart with me Rich...
and this is all based on the need for online gaming antics
kinda funny actually
I think ADSL/CM more than offer the speed you need. If pings get any lower, we'll be killing each other before we even know that we pressed the trigger
lol
