I've just started learning how to map and i'm finally getting the hang of it :E

I read up on it from snarkpit.co.uk which has helped alot but when I read how to make a normal rotating door, it didn;t explain it very well...

i know i need to use func_door_rotating but whenever I apply it to the door it does a huge rotation.

I also know you need to make some sort of hinge for it so it know where to rotate along etc

just don't know how to do it ;(

also, I made a window and a skylight, i can make the skylight see through but not the window ;(

and how do I use textures with transparent areas?

thanks

I could try to offer the answers, but instead I'll just paste these links from a previous reply I gave a few weeks back...

try...

the top link's "tutorials" section is nothing short of superb - explains door "mechanics"/see-through solids etc etc

Have fun

PS. If you're still stuck after visiting the above, gizza shout :)

bah, trying to make a bridge but its really hard... can't get the hang of the texturing... can you tedxture each side of a block individually?

yes you can.

Before selecting a texture go to tools (or Shift A), then texture application. Now when you click on a face in 3D window you can individually texture it as well as increase texture size, orientation and move the texture to fit.

You can also align texture to the world, or just to the face you have currently selected.

Just create a texture (cylinder or spike), clip a side of it and then use the texture application tool to see how it works on each face or on the whole. Its the best way to see what effects you can get.
