Event Horizon was a fantastic film... One of my all time faves and I can't wait for a R2 DVD version of it :)

It's not perfect by any means but Event Horizon has a lot more spark than a lot of the sci-fi films that have come out over the last few years. It had a refreshingly original viewpoint for a lot of the space scenes, utilising a lot of interesting angles and camera moves which I particularly liked. Watching the rotating pan back from the space station on the cinema screen nearly made me throw up. The soundtrack, again, I thought was very good and as far as the set design goes all I can say is 'awesome'.
The main area it falls down in is dialogue which, although utilising a pretty good cast, often sounded a little hollow and derivitive of other movies (Aliens for one). A bit more polish on that front before filming would have done wonders. The only other criticism I have is the limited characterisation given to some of the more interesting cast members like Jason Isaacs and Sean Pertwee. Oh, and the overly done comic diatribe from the black character (Jones?). That grated especially towards the end.
