Why all the mail?

I posted my opinion on the Cheese & Onion crisp bag colour debate some time ago. How come I continue to get mails saying there's a new post even though I never revisit the thread?

LOL u must have clicked the box where it sends you a mail everytime theres a new post to that thread, which unluckily for you is a massive thread lol.

Yup, if you had Email notification clicked when you replied then you will get an email every single time someone posts a reply to that thread, forever, until the end of time, for all eternity etc.... :laugh:

And there's no way to stop it other than the thread being closed/deleted. :E

No it's not a bug, it just means what it says, the email refers to one specific reply, but there may be others it hasn't told you about but if you visit the thread it may see any extra replies and email you again.

Just had a look at your post in this thread - unless you set it specifically you may have selected the "Use 'Email Notification' by default" option.

It's down the bottom of your profile if you'd like to turn it off.

In the mean time I'll see if I can catch any posts of your in the thread and disable the email notification. I'm not 100% it'll work and I may miss posts (try let me know how many times you posted so I'll know if I missed any).

Right, I found two posts on page 9 (of 11 - so you've had at least 40-50 posts about this?!!). I de-ticked the email notification option, although as I said, I'm not sure if that'll stop the emails. Let me know how you get on m8, though if it doesn't work there's not much can be done without killing the thread (which would result in my untimely end I suspect). Alternatively you could block/filter emails coming from whatever address sends the notifications.

Anyhoo - lets see if this works :)

yeah I must have misread it. I thought I'd get one mail saying there'd been a new post and then nothing more until I revisited the thread.

I posted 2 mails on 10/11th of Jan. No big deal if you can't stop em. I can live with it.

Personally I think the Emailing system has big problems.

I leave it on as a rule and the only time it worked was when MGM was spamming every night and the immortal thread was closed. Afterwards I used to get sporadic emails telling me days after my last visit a message had been posted usually. Now even these are few and far between, maybe one thread in seven gets an email sent. It’s quicker just to return and revisit a thread when I’m online.
