Lo, after looking for an answer it seems this card is extinct (can't imagine why ;)). I have.....

TNT2 M64 32mb
Direct X 8
PII333
128 mb ram
Soundblaster Live! 1024
Legend QDI mobo at 2x AGP
WinME

Countsertrike seems so slow, with/without major tweaking. It'll stutter along at 20-30 fps, sometimes going up to 50 (I see 70 odd staring at a wall, so I know it isn't capped at 30 or whatever), but in firefights, go as low as 10 fps!!!!!

I have been told previously that it was my PSU, so replaced that with a 250W odd new spangly one and no difference.

I want to hear from someone that has similiar setup who gets it to run smoothly. I really want to join a clan, but this is holding me back.

Cheers :)

nVidia Detonator drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/htmlmedia/detonator3.html should work well on your TNT2 card :)

The drivers on the nVIDA site are quite old. Go to http://www.overclockercafe.com for all the newer ones. I've read that different drivers work better for different systems (E.g, I've seen people praise Det. 6.5, but i find Det. 7.17 to be better, which is optimised for DX8).
Download a few, and see which runs better with a benchmark like 3D Mark 2000.

Just for those that are interested..........

After months of working on this and trying everything in the book, I am convinced that the problem lies with a bottleneck caused by the slower bus speed of my processor. It runs at 66Mhz. I have tried many many drivers (all cleanly installed etc etc), many config tweaks for Counterstrike, many Open GL, D3D tweaks (going through systematically each setting to see what they all did). And the results of all this? No noticable change in the performance of games. So the card can handle what the processor can give it, but the processor can't keep up.

I'd like this verified by some technical monkey to motivate me more into a proccy/mobo upgrade ;)

thx peeps :)

Well I think I qualify as a monkey, even if not all that techie :)

The point about CPU affecting graphics performance is spot on, and I mentioned that in thegraphics forum recently too. Changing my processor gained me 3000 3DMarks :)

Will the mobo/CPU overclock? Might be worth a try before buying summat, as even if it don't work or blows up you ain't lost out cos you were gunna but new anyway...

Changing up to a PIII should be easy and not very expensive (prices have just dropped), providing you can get your mobo to run faster. If not, then a new mobo is a must too.

lol, cheers :monkee:

My mobo runs 100Mhz and my ram is already at that clock, so presumably I could get a PIII 850 or summat and it would run. However, I think i will just do the 3 year upgrade thing and get a new mobo etc.

I'm off to search OC sites for my spec. If you have ne tips or possible trips, then drop em in here :)

What spec is yours now m8?

If you got 100Mhz bus then you can get a PIII850 and it will zing :) When I looked at http://www.dabs.com they had just dropped the price of that CPU from £230(ish) to £185 !!! (and i bought my PIII800 just a few weeks back for £180 ;( )

I too have a (2 year old) 100Mhz mobo, with AGPx2 and ATA66 (rather than 133Mhz, AGPx4 & ATA100) so to extend it's life cheaply I simply replaced the PII450 with a PIII800, swapped the STB Velocity (16Mb TNT) for a GeForce2 GTS, and added a 30Gb ATA66 7200 HDD. That should keep it going for a year or 2 more, and all cost just £500 - cheaper than a new PC :)

Next step will have to be a new mobo (or complete new machine - we'll see when the time comes).

As well as dabs, check http://www.scan.co.uk and http://www.watford.co.uk
(Scan has a particularly nice "today only" discounts page where I got that 30Gb drive for just £100 :) )

Scan rock :E

After doing a bit of research, I have found that I am lucky to have the 333 as this will probably be more reliable to OC as it uses the smaller trannies that the 100Mhz pII use. (less heat problems). It looks like I can whack up my FSB to 100 without problems which will be a massive improvement in it's own right :E so we'll see if things improve in the FPS field....

thx m8ty :)
Is your 450 spare? (gotta have backup plan if i pot roast my chip ;))
