View Full Version : I'm designing a Skatepark! :D
I just went down to my local park today to see if there was any chance of getting a small skate park put in and I discovered that the park had recently gotten a lottery grant and that a skatepark was definitely something that could go along well with their new sports facilities, I now have a meeting next tuesday with a bunch of old people to see whether we can get the Skate park built but for the meeting I would like to be able to show them a few sample sketches of a small park, a rough cost estimate for the park and deal with some of the details like whether it should be concrete or wooden (I'm going for wooden at the moment as its cheaper and easier to change although its slightly higher mantainence), do any of you know any good sites about making skate parks, ramps and other stuff?
If you can think of any good ideas for a good skatepark design let me know ;)
At the moment it id looking like being a 30 square-foot park (it doesn't have to be any exact shape though) but that is just the smallest size I think a park can be and still be worth using, hopefully we will get more space :D

Nice one mate! Is the park going to be indoor or outdoor? free admission or pay?
If you want ramp plans, you can buy them quite cheaply at CCS mailorder (http://www.cssmailorder.com)
umm... if you go to yahoo there are are lots of results for "ramp plans" (http://search.yahoo.com/bin/search?p=Skateboard+ramp+plans)
I have some ideas but ill write them later
any more help needed, just ask :)

Cool m8! Good luck with your plans and i hope you get the granted wish:)
I suggest you should make the skatepark indoor because if its outdoor theres the trouble of rain and stuff.
Also try asking for the vert ramps/bowls and also some grinding rails.
These are my suggestions search on yahoo like wetwilly said and search for grind rail plans.
Anyway i hope you get granted the new skatepark.
At the moment I am planning Outdoor and free, I doubt it will be big enough for people to want to pay to go on (or for it to be worth having someone there to collect the money) and I hadn't even considered indoor, the area the park will be in is not currently covered, I will look at the budget and see if there is enough to build a roof :)
At the moment the things I would like the park to have are:
A Fun Box
A shallow Bowl half surrounded by 3 different heights of half pipes
A Grinding rail (with ramp)
A Small round area with a low curved wall (for grinding) around the edges, a Hump in the middle and 2 entrances/exits
A warm Sheltered area to sit in when its cold (as requested by various skater girlfriends :E)
A high box thing with 4 ramps coming off of it to go down (see below, phear my l337 skillz) ;)

I think a Vert ramp may not be possible though, this is meant to be a pretty small park ;(
If any of you think there aren't enough skate parks near you then try and get one like I'm doing ;)

I'm lucky, i live near where the OWP (Oxford wheels project) is based, we have a big park with ramps, and they are building a street park...lucky me! :)
Well I live around the corner from Playstation ;)
If only it was free and I wasn't so much lamer than everyone else there ;(

hmm. How come people who have skateparks near them get another one built. As for people like me who have a 20min drive to south shields where theres an outdoor skatepark which is half basket ballcourts and it rains nearly everday.
But i have loadsa streets.
Because I'm damn good at persuading people to do stuff ;)
Just go talk to your local council and try and get a skate park ;)
At the moment I have lots of places to Skate (Playstation, South Bank, Westbourne Park) but I would like one that I don't have to travel to or spend money on ;)
I'm a lazy bast :D

If you want to try and get the council to make you one, make sure to include how much it would get them in profit and how much of a good image it would put on the town/whatever.
Thats all my damn town wants, money. :(
How would it make them money? I don't want to have to make it cost to get into, I doubt they will make a good enough park for it to be worth paying to get into ;(
I'll be ok with it if I can get them to make a kick ass park with a roof and stuff but I think they'll probably just make a Bowl with some quarter pipes and a funbox ;(
I just got mah new board today, a spinkee World Industries one wiv a green monsta on a motorbike/steam roller crushing a police car :D

Whoa youre so lucky i wish i could have a skate park built near me. ( all i have is a half pipe a box and a random rail )though it does surve its porpose well. Hope your meeting with the old folks is successful:)
Sean
The meeting went pretyy well, one of the (old) people there was already going to suggest a Skatepark :E
They thought the designs I had done were pretty good but for the next meeting I will need to bring scale pictures with measurements and everything, I just did these inital pictures to see what they thought :)
Funding shouldn't be too much of a problem, they have about £10,000 lying around and hopefully we can get more, land is a bit of a problem because it has to be away from quite areas and nice walking areas so it may have to be on a plot of land owned by the expensive sports centre next to the park (who happen to have really annoyed the local community by knocking down lots of stuff and would probably like to get in our good books ;))
Out of about 9 people at the meeting 2 of them were suggesting a skate/blade park 5 of them thought it would be a really good idea, 1 was indifferent and was was pessimistic but still not too bad :E
Now all we need is money...and land....and a skatepark :D
Sean, if you want a skate park try asking for one, just draw up a proposal saying why you think there should be a park, prove there is demand for one, make some nice designs (you can steal mine if you want), and hope your local park is feeling generous :D
I got new wheels (Spitfires) and Bearings (Pigs) today! :D

Success, My friend just asked them and it turned out that they wanted to build a new 'Social' Activities area. They have already chosen the site it is in a town 15 minutes bus ride away! It is going to be quite big and it is going to have a half pipe bowl and fun boxes and rails. It turned out someone else had already asked them :smokin: They originally said no but so many people asked they finally gave in! I am really happy so i will go skate!

Nice one izzie, old people do have some sort if brain! Good for them.
as for new parks near me, well, we have a ramp park (vert, mini etc), i live 45 mins car drive away from radlands, and about 3-4 hours away from playstation.
I am quite lucky with all the parks i got, but i guess i deserve it, there are NO good street spots where i live, really (apart from a nice 7 set down cambridge :P)
hey i got some good news! :)
Me and my m8s put a petiton to have a skate park near my area and we got enough peeps to sign it !! so we are getting one!!! :) after 2 years of petioning :E
It is really so much easier than people think to get a Skatepark....2 years is a bit much though, either you weren't going to the best place to ask for it or you have an even more tight-arsed council than me ;(
Seriously, anyone that doesn't have a local Skatepark just has to prove there will be demand for it (I didn't even need a petition, they took my word for it just from seeing people skating around the town hall) and possibly draw up a few designs for them :D
