View Full Version : Samsung DVD-709?
Just need some help please, how do I make this player play region 1 titles, I took a long time convincing a friend that his 709 would play R1 DVD's, then he ordered some from America and guess what? They don't work, so now I have to either solve the problem, or buy the DVD's from him (which I have no use for seeing as though my player is single region).
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hi mate
What you will need to do is flash the firmware in the DVD drive to a better version that makes the player region free. This though involves some risk, is you mess it up you will turn your drive into an expensive door stop! But the process is extremely easy, normaly all you do is download a firmware update that will do what you want, put into a directory. Drop the PC to DOS mode, try in a command that will be given in the readme file associated with the firmware download, select the device number for the component to upgrade (a list will be presented on screen after initiating the process), wait until its finished and then restart the computer and enjoy.
You will also need a piece of software to enable you DVD playback program to become region free as to. DVD Genie is the best.
You should be able to find all the info you need and the programs at these two sites
http://www.inmatrix.com &
http://www.firmware.com.bi
You will have to check if an update that exists for your drive that will make it multi region, if your unlucky there might not be one.
Hope this helps

Ignore completely what Beaver_Fever says. Whilst what he says may be true for some players the 709 is a piece of cake to make multi-region. All it involves is pressing the right combination of buttons on the remote control. To find out the right combination go here http://www.709online.co.uk/ where all will be revealed.

And apparently it don't matter that the discs are NTSC cos the 709 is one of the only players to convert to PAL for you.
I haven't got any multi-region discs yet but when I do and if all this works its gonna be great :E
