I had Blueyonder Cable installed on Monday and it basically works great. In Q3A I get pings of 15-30 with no PL....absolute bliss :) The problem is with Q2. When nobody is on the servers I get the same great connection as with Q3A, but as soon as somebody joins the server my ping creeps up to 50-60 and I start getting PL. If another person joins my ping goes up to 90-100 and I get bad PL :( On a full server it's unplayable. This goes for all the Q2 servers. I've done a trace to compare a Q2 server to a Q3 server and the results were exactly the same. I can also play Q2 on Clara or Jolt servers and it's great - so it's just the WP Q2 servers for some reason :(

I guess you're going to say it's BY's fault and there's nothing you can do. But I'm sure BY will also say the tracert looks fine, so they can't do anything either. So any help/advice/hints/tips would be nice. Pleeeeeez :)

hi,

it could be that your client rate is set too high, try restricting your client rate to 8000 (by typing rate 8000 in the console, i *think* - i'm not a q2 player:) )

otherwise, tell us which q2 servers you have tried, and we can then see if there is any peering problems that blueyonder might have to the netfeed that they are on.

also, prolly not a bad idea to post this on the q2 board as well.

Thanks for looking into this for me! Basically it seems to be all the Wireplay Q2 servers :( I've just this second pinged the Newbie/Novice server (for example) and it's showing 96 - and if I connect there will be bad PL. The regular Deathmatch server is also pinging the same. I've also just pinged a Claranet server and it shows 35. Like I said before, I can guarantee that at around 1:00am, when everybody is in bed, the WP servers will also be pinging 35ish :( Obviously, at some point down the line, something just can't cope with even a small amount of traffic. I've tried messing with the rate in Q2, but the servers cap to either 5000 or 8000 anyway.

p.s. I can send you the results of my traces if that would help?
